Usually that would be because they're raising the kids, which isn't exactly easy.

I know, but I feel compelled to try, especially when invalid assumptions are used to justify things like misogyny or racism.

None of the hobbies you've listed have been shown to promote logical reasoning in everyday life. You seem to be confusing logic with spatial, mechanical or abstract reasoning. Being a computer engineer, for example, does not give you a greater chance of making more logical life choices than being, say, a paramedic. You might be better at solving certain types of puzzles, but that is far from the same thing. You still are simply providing opinion, while you dismiss any evidence to the contrary. S…

Sure, men and women sometimes choose different hobbies. Or often not. I write novels, compose music, sing, play instruments, play games, watch TV, read about archaeology and zoology, learn languages. None of those hobbies are exclusively female, and most people's hobbies aren't easily sorted by gender. The fact that men have higher rates of dangerous risk-taking behaviour in all domains that I am aware of does in fact suggest there may be more illogical men than illogical women. There is certain…

No. My professional field is psychology and research does not suggest that women are less logical than men. Women communicate all emotions more except anger, on average, but that definitely does not equate to being less logical. Men are actually more prone, on average, to taking illogical risks or committing 'crimes of passion'. By a long way. You have to remember that anger is an emotion.

Riiiiight. So men have higher rates of things like schizophrenia, addiction and dangerous risk-taking why exactly? All the logic? Edit: Just to be clear, I am not saying men are less logical than women, just that logic and irrationality aren't exclusive to any gender and your statement is dumb.

Ignore that moron. You having BPD doesn't invalidate your (correct) opinion. Para-suicide is an issue that is taken very seriously.

This doesn't happen. Or rather, women are often dismissed as being attention-seeking while men are taken more seriously. But turning depression into a gender issue is stupid and counter-productive.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/16 01:36 AM

Actually no, women attempt suicide more frequently than men. Men just tend to use more violent means that have a higher fatality rate, whereas women often opt for pills or other 'clean' methods.

You are so delusional it's not even funny. How can you honestly think that 50% of the population have no real problems. Do you think mental illness, like this girl suffers from, isn't a real problem? Jesus Christ.

Friendship is transactional. Does that mean friendship isn't real? Love is hard to understand sometimes: Is it selfish or selfless? Or in between? This is part of why so much of our literature and music is devoted to it. What makes me believe in love is the willingness to put someone else first. To risk your life for theirs, if it came to it. There is no real selfish advantage to that. Your understanding of relationships is definitely overly cynical and flawed; you seem to not understand that mo…

The thing is... I'm a woman, in a LTR with a man. My relationship also worked best when I was at the top of my game in terms of confidence and independence, and went through a real rough patch when my health turned to crap and my confidence and independence tanked. TRP labels a lot of stuff as male/female traits that are just human relationship traits.

I think it's ridiculous to claim that beauty standards over things that signal health would truly change over such as short period as centuries Well that's not true. Nowadays, in Western society, obesity is a more common health issue than malnutrition. This was certainly not the case in Italy 500 years ago. So if a guy preferred skinny girls back then, he would literally have been significantly reducing his chances of successfully reproducing. But you don't live in Italy 500 years ago, so I don'…

As a social species, we are biologically 'hardwired' to be influenced by society. There is literally no debate about that in neuropsychology. My point wasn't about what's biological and what isn't; I was simply countering the point that beauty standards aren't influenced by society.

That was where the money was. And typically, men wanted a healthy, non-malnourished woman as a wife, preferably with some cash and good connections. So those traits became beautiful.

Ewwww, nobody cares what your penis does. If you only dated girls way younger than you, then yeah I would lose respect for you, assuming I had any for RPers.

Your post makes very little sense. Sexual orientation is a very different thing to beauty standards. There's really no denying that beauty standards change, for men and women. Centuries ago in Europe, being plump (not obese, but overweight by today's standards) and pale was considered beautiful for women (see Renaissance paintings), because these were signs of wealth and health. Nowadays, being tanned and in shape are more associated with wealth and health, because wealthy people take more holid…

Because those men are valuing looks over everything else. Simple as that. They don't care about the generation gap or whatever. They're just in it for the sex/ego boost. But at least personally I don't hate men like that, because I don't personally know them and don't care that much. I just lose respect for them.

1, when did I say my SO didn't really want to have sex? We both had very high sex drives in our teens, though he certainly didn't act like a stereotypical 'horndog'. 2, you are suggesting that the vast majority of 17 year old guys will have sex whenever the opportunity arises? I have no idea if that's true, and neither do you. But I know for a fact that there is at least a minority who won't. I find it hilarious that it is so hard for you to accept that there might be a guy, somewhere, who won't…

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I've known him since 11th grade and witnessed this stuff myself. He was extremely popular with girls; it pissed me off no end before we got together. Your inability to believe that guys can be picky is extremely sexist towards men.

I've been with him since we were 17. I witnessed it firsthand in school. He believed sex was something that should only go with love, so though he had dated a lot more than me (and had two irritating stalker types in our school at the time), he had only slept with one girl when we got together. I have since corrupted his views slightly, while mine have become more like his. Believe it or not, some guys who are popular with girls don't sleep with all of them. Everyone has their own standards. My …

I really wonder what world you live in. You assume that a) it's easy for most women to have sex, and b) it's difficult for most men. A) first. Possibly, if you're willing to sleep with extremely creepy men. They are the only ones, where I'm from at least, who will snoop around looking for sex all the time. Obviously, if you're semi-attractive and go looking yourself, it is possible to find more normal guys, though not as easily as RPers seem to imagine. B) From anything I've seen, there are also…

Science comes along, and this guy says 'nope'. Also, what? So no guys chase female sexual icons like Rihanna, Beyonce or whatever actress of the moment? Those women are pretty...alpha, wouldn't you say?

The thing is, it's very hard to control for all possible confounding variables that might lead to both a high partner count and dissatisfaction. In general, those with high partner counts are probably going to be those with fewer LTRs and possibly more unfaithfulness (ie they have to rack up the count somehow). These commitment issues aren't going to go away when they get married. So as always, correlation =/= causation.

Women like guys that easily get lots of girls, and they hate on sluts worse than men do. That's a huge generalization, and certainly not true in my group of female friends. Generally only bitchy girls do that, often ones who like a lot of male attention, and it often seems to be jealousy.

Maybe these particular things applied to the women you were talking with. Ask different women and you'll get different responses, as you see here. Because neither women nor men are all the same sexually or romantically. Individual difference is far greater than gender difference, and any ideology that attempts to tell you how all members of a certain group think is almost certainly wrong. For me personally: I have varied between both. Atm, if I was single, I think I would prefer quality, but whe…

Exactly. Where I'm from, the wife/mother is more normally seen as the head of the household in terms of decision-making. My mother always said 'men are like dogs - they like to know their boundaries'. I certainly don't subscribe to that way of thinking and my bf is my equal partner. But I cannot imagine ever being a 'first mate' in a relationship. It's just not in my nature.

I'll admit that I didn't read any of that past the first paragraph, as there is only so much fun to be had out of arguing with ranting terpers. But I would just like to clarify that I quite explicitly did not try to diagnose you with anything, and if you can't understand that then there isn't much hope of you understanding any of my other points. I'm out.

I work in psychology. Paranoia is not a disorder. It is a symptom, along with others that have to be met for a disorder to be diagnosed. It is perfectly fine to use the word paranoid in relation to theories that seem...paranoid. I am going to ignore the immature personal insults or insults to women; call me a poopyhead all you like. However you seemingly cannot grasp the concept that a woman certainly will willingly sleep with a flawed man if his penis is in working order. Sometimes people are j…

Paranoia is not always crippling, and it can be used as a word without being a 'diagnosis', rather like the word anxiety. Except most women intuitively know that sleeping around makes them less desirable as long term partners and don't like to be reminded (slutshamed) for this. Again, she would want ideally society to accept this and she can still marry off as a virgin bride and have a healthy long term relationship raising healthy children after slaying 20 cocks in her mouth in a frat party org…

Of course there are plenty of women, like myself, who do not have it in us to be 'followers'. My bf is a sensible, intelligent man who I absolutely respect. But he has no particular desire to 'lead' and I have absolutely no desire to 'follow' - I have too many goals and projects to ever be happy in that role. We each run our own lives and meet in the middle.

Antislutshaming is used to rotate through alpha cocks Huh? If I understand the TRP ideology, an 'alpha' is a term for a man that women would typically find desirable. Plenty of women do like to sleep around in their youth, but the men they sleep with and don't pursue relationships with are not the ones they consider most desirable. Many women, like men, simply like to kill time with flings until love comes along. And the 'control strategy' stuff you talk about is extremely paranoid.

Well, my experience is just as valid as yours, and lack of communication from my bf almost ended our relationship. You are almost certainly creating problems for yourself, but okay.

This is absolute bullshit. As in the opposite of true. One of the main sources of frustration for myself and many other women in relationships is men not communicating enough about the important stuff.

Not amongst some of our closest relatives they aren't, for instance bonobos. We differ from other mammals in many ways. Yes, many middle aged men would prefer to sleep with a woman of their own age, for a number of reasons. In human society, sex has as much to do with partnership as it does reproduction.

I've honestly never seen evidence of different sex drives in my life; if that is the case, it has never played an important role in my life. Maybe it is an American thing. I have a higher sex drive than my bf. Life goes on. The rest of what you're saying is pseudoscience bollocks.

If you don't think women do that, you don't know many women.

Actually research does suggest that women and men are equally emotional, but where they differ, in Western society at least, is the expression of emotion. On average, women express all emotions more frequently, bar anger, which (on average) men express more frequently. But obviously emotionally expressive men and outwardly angry women do exist.

TRP is one of the most separated things from reality I have ever read. As someone who has experienced both healthy and less healthy relationships (and obviously observed those of others), their view on gender relations is like something from an alien world. It's difficult to believe they're discussing humans, or have ever interacted with normal people. It's mind-boggling.

Well yeah, within reason you are supposed to start fresh with every person. You can recognise patterns of behaviour from past encounters, but neither gender is homogeneous enough to make solid assumptions based purely on their sex. Psychological research has consistently shown that individual differences far outweigh gender differences when it comes to personality. But TRP seems to rely on unsubstantiated pop evo-psych theories to support their views, rather than any kind of evidence from respec…
