| 1 | a funny thing happened at the gymI think it's a matter of standards. Luckily for me I don't have any. | /r/MensRights | 29/11/12 08:15 AM |
| 0 | a funny thing happened at the gymYeah you're right. They were probably lining up outside the door for her job. | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 10:08 PM |
| 1 | a funny thing happened at the gymThis all really comes down to two things. Societal norms and personal hangups. In most western countries it is probably the norm to avoid being seen naked in front of people of the opposite sex with whom we are not intimate. So having a cleaning lady in the males locker room has a certain WTF factor. But also we're all talking about what personally makes us uncomfortable. I have a very high tolerance and other people's are low. Either of those are cool, but if you have a low tolerance you may no… | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 09:53 PM |
| 7 | a funny thing happened at the gymYou just described my last three relationships. | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 09:38 PM |
| -1 | a funny thing happened at the gymI argued that men's bodies are always ugly? I never said that. I was talking about the societal attitude that women are not supposed to enjoy looking at men's naked bodies. I'm not wrong. I put forth a few theories. Three to be exact. They may all be wrong. You seem to enjoy looking at naked male bodies. I have absolutely no problem with that (if anything I'd be flattered), but the men that you share your locker room with might have as many problems with it as they would have with a female clean… | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 06:30 PM |
| 3 | a funny thing happened at the gymI think we all know the answer to that. I've heard of females who refuse to undress while strange women are present (in Europe of all places). But should we use this then as an opportunity to point out to the women how up tight they are? Should we point out to men that they don't care enough about who they get naked in front of? Should we use it as a chance to think about how our society got the way it is and what we need to do to make things better? Number 3 gets my vote. My answer to it is tha… | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 06:19 PM |
| 0 | a funny thing happened at the gymI presented three possible points at the beginning of this discussion. So far they haven't been discussed. The closest we've come to discussion has been complaining about how unjust each of them might be. | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 06:07 PM |
| -12 | a funny thing happened at the gymHonestly I don't get most of this outrage. You want to have only women cleaners in female changing rooms and only male cleaners in male changing rooms? Fine. Go to a gym that has that. But you're not out of the woods yet junior. What if that male cleaner is <gasp> homosexual. Hadn't even thought of that had you? Still not in the clear though. What if some of the other gym members are gay!? I used to live in DC and had a great gym at the Hilton which was just north of Dupont Circle (the Castro St… | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 06:02 PM |
| 0 | a funny thing happened at the gymHehe. Not sure how that fits into the discussion but vintage Bugs Bunny always gets karma. | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 05:56 PM |
| -6 | a funny thing happened at the gymSo what's your deal Peter? I was polite enough to explain my reasoning for thinking that society reacts the way it does, and you accuse me of being a dumbshit bigot? Are you one of those super evolved human beings who thinks and treats every single individual that you meet without any preconceived notions? Hard to imagine based on the way you've reacted to this discussion. Or are you one of those new age anti-feminists who thinks that somehow the pendulum of societal sexism has swung too far in … | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 05:54 PM |
| 11 | a funny thing happened at the gymThey do? <puts on overalls> <grabs mop> | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 04:50 PM |
| 3 | a funny thing happened at the gymI wasn't saying that anyone belongs anywhere. I was putting forth theories for why we accept one and not the other. | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 04:43 PM |
| -9 | a funny thing happened at the gymIs that YOUR first reaction when you see naked women? "OOH, smelly cooches"? The shame train pretty much does only go in one direction. Not because of nature but because that is how our society is. You're right. It is a sexist double standard. Heavens. | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 04:42 PM |
| -6 | a funny thing happened at the gymI'm a relatively forward thinking twenty first century kind of guy, and I think most people who know me would agree that I am not racist, classist, or sexist. But when a male janitor comes into my world I generally acknowledge him reflexively and may even think about telling him about my own time (in my teens) when I did cleaning work to find common ground. When a female cleaner comes in my first impulse is to see if she is cute and if she's not to ignore her. If I'm in a locker room getting und… | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 04:40 PM |
| -8 | a funny thing happened at the gymYour English seems fine. Wouldn't have said that it wasn't your mother tongue if you hadn't pointed it out. It's an interesting point to raise, and I've noticed this before too. On the one side it seems sexist to males. Some of us probably don't feel comfortable getting naked in front of the cleaning lady. On the other hand I think it's probably more of an imposition on those females to have to do their jobs surrounded by our sweaty junk. Mostly I think it's a class thing were females who do men… | /r/MensRights | 28/11/12 02:41 PM |
