perhaps, but more significantly it seems to be Reddit-culture to celebrate making light of infidelity.

something like 3 out of every 5 jokes that I’ve seen on the front page from /r/jokes has a punchline involving infidelity. “haha! she’s fooling around on her husband/bf” wtf.

Women’s Day this year was nuts. it’s now borderline a secular holiday. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the coming years arguments come out that it should be a federal holiday.

that’s the trouble with it. anyone saying the oft-cited statistic that “only 2% of accused rapes are false” may not appreciate that they’re arguing about a dark figure’s dark figure. in all likelihood, the proposed figure of “X number of rapes occur per year” (or any crime for this matter) is an understatement since many go unreported. the number of unreported rapes is difficult to quantify. arguing about how many rapes are false is more difficult to measure since now we have to agree on what co…

at some point I realized that dating isn’t pure up-side, it costs time, money, energy, and significant emotional investment. I can think of more than a few alternative uses for that stuff that are certain compared to the gamble that dating is. Also I dislike gambling generally. I don’t care for casual relationships because they’re either meaningless or someone gets hurt, more often than not it’s the latter. I can see myself dating at some point in the future but I’ve not-cared to look for it for…

OP see if your work-state is a single-party consent state for recording conversation. if yes: next time this has a potential of happening, be recording and tell her to knock it off with her response to that. then just let her boss / some other authority person know what’s going and that you have proof that it’s ongoing despite requesting her to stop it. keep that device handy afterwards in case there’s retaliation.

According to sources, the goons along with the girl then entered the students’ classroom while classes were going on and demanded that they are handed over to them. Jesus Christ - they formed and rallied a mob and did this just with a few calls from her? what is she a mafia leader?

I remember some event/lecture was happening on my school campus, and there was a general misunderstanding of the group hosting it. Someone clarified on a facebook page, and a classmate said something to the effect of “oh I thought it was those whiny Men’s rights activists lol.” In a freshmen class, years before this comment, a professor asked us to go around the room and introduce ourselves and our academic interests- this same classmate stood up and said she wants to be a sociologist. I remembe…

this is anecdotal, but there may be papers on it: I’ve heard that suicidal women tend to use less “certain” methods of suicide whereas suicidal men tend to leave less room for being “rescued.” in other words, method may be a meaningful factor with the suicide result being composed mostly of men.

Apart from her blatant misrepresentations and ignorance, take this example: zoo animals are more likely to live longer than their wild counterparts, they still have advocates protesting how soul-crushing an existence it can be and arguing that zoos should be closed. right or wrong, that’s a totally fair argument to make. all guys do when going MGTOW is keeping their toys and not playing with women - that’s it. they’re not joining the zoo. the minority of voices that are outright misogynist that …

is anyone familiar with and able to illustrate the difference in divorce between Canada and US? I’m familiar with some of the raw deals men can get in the US, but commentary here suggests in Canada it’s a quite a bit worse. I’m just wondering if someone could provide context. thx.

an interesting book studying human sexual preferences is A Billion Wicked Thoughts. basically Google engineers take 1 Billion+ of search results and go through the data to understand how men and women think when it comes to sex, porn, etc. I remember one of the pieces they say is that women tend to operate like a “detective agency” meaning they check with their friends on a guy their with/seeing for their thoughts, approval or criticisms. Speaking now anecdotally, women engage in pretty intimate…

yep. like how a little while back there was a supposedly huge problem with unpaid internships and “exploiting” the youth, but (anecdotal) everytime I looked at internships w private companies they offered something above minimum wage, whereas with public/government internships they were almost never paid.

those are good points, Arkady did seem (to me) like he had a foot out of the door on it and it started chipping when Bazarov was arguing with his uncle - there were some pages where I really thought Bazarov was an asshole. and yeah I wasn’t sure of the motivation of why Bazarov died but that idea of coexisting in society was the one that crossed my mind most immediately. It’s weird though, because commentary on Turgenev seemed to be along the lines that he was himself a sort of ‘western-liberal’…

Yes!! I’ve wanted to read Dreams of a Ridiculous Man again lately maybe this weekend. Such vivid imagery at the beginning when the captain and the lady come in the room. I also just finished Fathers and Sons! it’s an interesting story. It also speaks to the political landscape / changes in attitude that were happening in Dostoevsky’s time that he was critical of in Notes from Underground and elsewhere. I wanted to read a bunch of this stuff to serve as context for W&P. re: Fathers and Sons, what…

I’ve read Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and a handful of short stories. I’m taking a pause from Dostoevsky to read War and Peace, but every time I see a Dostoevsky quote from The Brothers Karamazov I get more excited to read it next. Thanks for sharing (and sourcing)!

the %s represent answering yes to each prompt. so the 100% is realized by 100%=(% answering yes)+(1 - (% answering yes)) for each gender for each question.

I searched a bit, and found a book that references these figures from a 2012 online survey - the website domain cited in the book has expired. the book does not describe the survey/methodology. so it’s plausible that these are just self-reported perceptions rather than performance measures (according to criteria) and who knows if it was just a sidebar quiz. see chapter 4
