If somebody is saying "put on a mask and act confident, and then eventually you will be" Then yes, it does read literally as fake or artificial. However it is just stressing to you, that only YOU can make YOU change. What ever way you want to run it through your head, YOU have to get over AA, or "do this do that". Try to read from afar.
