You're conflating two different lessons. I'm not saying to teach them not to work, I'm saying don't raise them under the pretense that hard work is rewarded. Teaching them that losers don't succeed thus discouraging the kids from learning isn't going to give them the proper skills to succeed in life. Is the point of education not to prepare them for life? They should be motivated to try hard and enjoy life, regardless if they are in the top half of the class or not.
