Like many perfectionists I want to improve my cooking and at first I found my husband would only very begrudgingly share his opinion on how things may be improved. He was witness to how hard I was trying to succeed and how poorly I took my failures. After every meal success or failure he told me that he loves that I love to cook and whether my food turns out he feels loved by me for taking care of him. I lightened my attitude about cooking missteps and now my husband will happily open up about h…

Make it clear to him you are not interested, shut him down before you get angry because you can be dismissed more easily when you are emotional. Consistently shut him down when he approaches you. You mentioned a language barrier so maintain a consistent polite no thank you attitude. If you find yourself alone with him continue to excuse yourself. If he persists remove all pleasantness he will try to experience from any interaction with you. Don't smile, chat, or be friendly to him at all. Try yo…

I am suggesting that you ask him if he cares about you and how you feel. If he acknowledges you're unsatisfied with his mothers access to your relationship and cares you can work towards setting boundaries so you can both feel safe. If he does not acknowledge or care about how you feel about his mother invading your privacy he isn't worth spending time working on things with.

He may have a lot of great qualities but if he refuses to take your desire for privacy and security over his mother's desire to control his life; he is not a great guy. You're feelings of violation and discomfort are a big deal and valid. If you are determined to try and work things out (3 years is a long time) you will have to gather your thoughts and take some time. I have trouble expressing myself and easily get emotional so I make notes. After some time has passed and you still want to work …

First, I am so sorry that you were abused as a child. You did not deserve that to happen to you. No one deserves that, ever. Abuse is very difficult to acknowledge, think about, talk about, realize what happened and come to terms with reality about. I think seeking professional advice about what happened can greatly benefit you dealing with your trauma and navigating relationships moving forward. I have a lot of thoughts about what you shared your now ex-bf said to you. A lot of thoughts. I kn…

So there is this sub called r/JUSTNOMIL and it is where a lot of ladies who loved a Momma's boy end up. It doesn't have to end that way but there will be a time where he has to choose between you and his mom. Be careful!

Thank you for sharing your experience with our community; both asking for advice and sharing your take away and pay off. I know I can learn from your experience and will apply it to my relationship with my captain. It is so hard to find like minded women these days.

I am so thankful I found my husband. We talk about how so easily we could have missed meeting each other. I like to think frequently about my good fortune and all the positive parts of my life and that helps me keep a positive outlook and have a better attitude when it comes to the bumpy stuff.

I've seen "The Break" advertised on Netflix but didn't really look closely at the promo. If this example is a small slice of how the writers view women I think I would enjoy getting to know these characters.

I don't recall having watched this movie but I may have and just forgotten it. It looks worth watching (rewatching?). I love movies and stories in general.

I grew up in Canada with a stay at home Mom (Dad worked full-time) who told me I could be what ever I wanted if I worked hard enough. I grew up and decided I wanted to give my kids the same kind of phenomenal childhood that I had. It seemed natural to me that if I could choose to be anything I wanted; why couldn't I choose to be a SAHM? As I grew up I learned to keep my ambitions to myself though my parents have always been supportive and just want me to be happy. My personality is the kind that…
