Wow I'd be inclined to mull over marriage a bit more deeply after the staircase incident but not her I guess lol. Was the 3rd ok at least?

I completely get what you're saying, but it's just so foreign to me that it does not compute lol. Maybe because my formative years were spent socialising online through text without many pictures/ videos. That said, I actually found my partner online - got married in-person haha. But I suppose the big difference is we didn't let it drag out too long online before meeting, & actually talked for hours once we did meet. Of course COVID would impact that, but wasn't social media pre-COVID also pushi…

Well that's the thing, people have been saying this crap about 6ft tall guys forever, but I always laughed it off (I don't want to feel like a toddler stood next to my man thanks, lol). Men were still conflating their heights on dating apps etc back then too. I wonder whether the 'parasocial' nature of influencers affects people's perceptions of social media more now? Or maybe I'm just weird lol. Either way, I find it ironic that 'body positivity' is meant to be gaining momentum but only in lip …

Huh interesting, could you expand on how post-COVID has affected young women's height perceptions of viable partners? Asking because I've noticed my youngest GenZ sibling's marriage criteria suddenly includes '1st to be from our culture, 2nd to be tall'. It was never something any of us were fussed about (my partner is ~2-3" inches taller than me), but now it's literally the second most important attribute (!) she mentions in recent conversations. Where do you think it's coming from?

Interestingly enough, whilst you interpreted that as 'lying', I saw it as a symptom of her 'masking' instead. Now, you may argue those are the same thing lol (i.e. many NT social niceties require 'white' lies), but that doesn't change the fact that masking makes it easier to interact with a more neurotypical society (in this case, not 'scaring' the NT guy off future potential dates). It also backs up what other commentators have mentioned about autistic women learning to mask earlier - it's tota…

Here I know you skipped over the point. The original comment was literally referring to bravery in love. Good for your examples if how they want to define success doesn't include relationships, but my analogy clearly isn't for those people.

I don't like them either lol but I was giving an analogy - you didn't adapt it, you spelt out the entire thing lol. But yes, that's what I was getting at - those guys are stuck on the outside ring because they aren't willing to take the sacrifice required to get to the inner reward.

Yes but the British meaning of the word, not the American version.

Thanks for pointing that out to a woman, lol. My point was that those things require effort, not that they're required. OP was talking about guys having to be socialised well - women are required to do that too on top of the things I already mentioned.

Haha I guess the idea is that you get married first & then become friends afterwards. My mother would always try to give me the spiel that I could do whatever I wanted after I got married : "You can travel after you get married." "You can graduate after you get married." "You can make more friends after you get married." She'd of course always conveniently leave out the fact that getting married then means having to pop out babies (for her). Good luck doing all of that as freely with kids & a sp…

Haha of course the environment affects things too - of course I don't cry at work (or much anywhere else, actually) but I do notice things like male colleagues branding me as 'difficult' when I call them out on their antics (for example, me getting irate at them for dodging important questions but they take it 'under advisement' when other male colleagues then exasperatedly ask the same thing). My cultural experiences are all over the place, which no doubt clouds things (sorry if this is long & …

Oh it definitely plays a part but I think there's also something to be said for the climate in the past where parents were comfortable with letting their children go play on the street outside with the neighbour's kids (& even other kids they come across within the neighbourhood). Part of the reason for keeping kids indoors these days is due to the mistaken modern belief that the spending all your time on a device will shield your child from ever becoming the victim of unsavoury people or situat…

Same - my grades were the only thing that mattered, so I was expected to always be studying. No time to invite friends over. Then suddenly when I reach university age, my parents are all over me, demanding to know why I haven't found a suitable marriage partner yet. Err maybe because I haven't learnt how to talk to the opposite sex yet, lol?

I suppose it's the nature VS nurture debate - if you gave OP disinterested parents instead, I wonder whether their personality type would have still made them likely to find socialisation easy.

This choice is the important part - I see kids here that are playing sports & learning grade 8 violin, but only so they can put it on a CV when applying to middle schools. They sure aren't more social as a result - if anything, they just bury their noses deeper into their phones as a result of the burnout.

It may seem effortless, but learning how to walk the tightrope when you dress & make yourself up so that you come across as attractive but not too sexy, interesting but not too intellectual etc is something that has to be learnt. Most young girls learnt the looks part from their mothers, but now there are YouTube makeup tutorials for it. Doesn't make buying all the makeup & clothing stuff any less expensive, though. I think many men are quick to discount this side of things because they can just…

I hear you - common socialisation dictates that anger is the only acceptable negative emotion to be displayed to be displayed by men. Similarly if I show anger instead of tears, I get painted as being unnecessarily temperamental or (my favourite) 'difficult'. I don't get that assessment if I'm crying, lol. Oh I'm not in the UK now so I was talking about women from other cultures judging my demeanor as intimidating. Yes, it is affected by class but also the intersection of other factors that may …

Oh, definitely. I think part of the wall difference has to do with socialisation - since it's usually seen as more acceptable for a woman to wear her heart on her sleeve, that's how many of them get to know one another (whereas men may talk about hobbies & things that are otherwise separate to the inner core of the person itself). Of course this is only a generalisation, since I've been told I apparently come across as a man at first (online) because even when I'm talking about personal things, …

Not to be crude but if you find that you enjoy it more without an audience then the issue may be more incompatibility or him simply not being very good at it lol. If it's complete disinterest even when alone though then yes, I'd say asexuality is likely.

I think the difference though is that OP is talking about being sexually attracted to someone from the beginning VS what's being discussed here ( becoming less sexually attractive to someone over time).

I think not just bravery but more specifically vulnerability. I'm sorry about what your ex-wife did to you, but a relationship that's built on being guarded (about how much they let the other person into their life) usually isn't as deep as the one you had. I guess what I'm trying to say is, as much as it hurt, you got a taste of the inside of a Cadbury Creme Egg, & therefore know what a proper one should taste like), but the MGTOW guys in your scenario will forever be relegated to licking the o…

I'm seeing some people here not only say they wouldn't use this but also talking for others. I dunno, man - I'd be down to try it! Some of the best dates I ever had were hanging out in a park or café to talk for hours without worrying about having to get dressed up or a tight schedule. It's a double edged sword, really; I don't wear makeup on a daily basis but I would wear it for dates because it seems that it's expected of women - if I don't, then I'm not putting in enough 'effort'. Even if I m…

Oh, you mean the irony that you would probably also lose any internship you had with NASA due to that language?
