Cycling long zone 2 rides on a well known bike path with music feels like a form of meditation.

I had a divorce agreement. So, in my state/county my attorney handled everything basically over email. I had to go in to sign and notarize documents a couple of times.

I didn’t say anything to my neighbors assume they figured it out or didn’t. Depends on how close you are to them. Are they neighbors (acquaintances), friends, or good friends? You’re going to have a slightly awkward conversation either way.

This isn’t about you. It’s the narrative she’s weaving in her head. There’s nothing that needs to be done. You could acknowledge it’s receipt but you don’t owe her anything. Also, there’s no upside to engaging other than thanking her for the well wishes on your future happiness. Which is just a neutral acknowledgment and letting her know that you don’t accept the crap she is trying to put on you.

This was in reference to the comment above about designer dogs. Having said that loneliness can be temporary. I wouldn’t get a dog within six months to a year of any major change. I might help out with rescue dogs. But a dog is 8 to 15 year commitment and your circumstances could change over time. I got my dog several years before my divorce. She’s great company and gives me an excuse to get out of the house. But she’s a huge commitment as well.

I have a designer dog and love her. She’s super smart and loyal. She plays when it’s appropriate. You can barely tell she’s in the house, doesn’t shed, doesn’t create any unnecessary mess or work. Is very loyal. Follows me around the dog park to make sure I’m ok and then checks in on me every few minutes. This was what I was hoping for when I picked the breed mix.

Speak to your lawyer. My guess is that making her a W2 employee does not allow you to avoid paying her the $100k after tax. The income can marginally reduce your child support liability but making her employee does not offset anything. Also, paying child support in advance is not a great idea. If she goes through the money the court will have you pay the monthly child support amounts. You can put the money in a separate account and auto transfer to her on a monthly basis if you don’t want to thi…

Ask for help from the bank to get out of a financially abusive situation? When my soon to be ex-wife asked me to remove her from my cards the bank balked. I think it’s because of past history if women being financially abused and cut off financially. I don’t know if this is real or not but if mention the word abuse I think their HR radar would start to go off and you may get some assistance.

Do you have instructions for how to look up decrees in your state?

We have a signed agreement so the attorney handles everything. It took 6 months to get a signed agreement. Mainly because we started out with a mediator from another state.

But spousal support at his current salary is likely a gift.

You have zero assets and only debt. Talk to a lawyer and GTFO. She is likely not entitled to any future income unless she is willing to take a share of the debt. I’m not a lawyer but I bet you’d be fine walking away. Make your dad the bad guy and get evicted. At this point she is looking for the next gravy train and you don’t owe her anything. All I hear is that you went into debt to support her. Be stuck with the debt and have the rest of your life. BTW … she likely told you that you could date…

Don’t react. That what she wants for you to react because she is in pain and wants to know you feel it as well or for some other reason. You don’t owe her anything and then their is no upside to reacting. Interview some lawyers and let them deal with it. I bet this will drag out for you. Find ways to avoid her (without avoiding her) and pour into your children if you have them. At this point the only communication necessary is the divorce agreement and the children.

I’m on the other side of this. My wife and I have been married more than 15 years. There has been a lot of drama and stress in our life. I have told my wife that I love her and forgive her but I can’t forget. Moreover that we have grown apart . She asks me on a weekly basis if we can reconcile. I listen to her and let her that we don’t agree on the reasons and rehashing them isn’t going to change anything. The things in the past are big to me but she believes that they are normal marital trouble…

Thanks. Great advice. I have a family vacation lined up at Xmas and I have a trip on my own in January. Taking a language immersion class in another country.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
