This is normal. They fake a crime scene and send pictures to convince the perp the deed is done. When the person pays, there's no real defense to be made.

The thing about polar bears is they don't have a concept of another animal that isn't prey and unlike in a forest where visibility is low, the polar bear knows exactly where you are ages before you even know it's there. A grizzly bear will fuck you up and maybe leave; a polar bear will eat you. Maulings from a polar bear are not common, but are almost always fatal.

Bears use their extreme sense of smell for things like finding a dead animal to scavenge miles away just from the smell and sniffing out underground marmots in their holes. A polar bear will cover its nose with snow and wait by a hole in the ice where it smells the seals that surface there for air.
