A simple threat of violence is not assault. Assault is when a reasonable person believes that there is a good chance of physical harm. For instance if I have my hands around you're throat and am yelling at you, that's assault. Assault is the threat of physical harm, battery is the actual harm. That's why assault and battery go together. I would not call for a resignation if this event occurred within a vacuum. However this group has called for and gotten resignations from a few people who did nothing by claiming they had lost their safe space.
