I think it's both. Horrible people exist everywhere. I'm sorry that happened to you, I hope she gets some karma for it some day.

Please show me the context you have to make that decision. I'm not here to fight or argue. I believe you theres something else here and I'd like to know better about it.

I know many men who were not allowed to have emotions, and were very damaged by the "boys dont cry" mentality. Im gonna tell bare details. I dont want to go too far into it because it is their story to tell, but they are real and numerous. Also, I'm beginning to suspect that many of these issues may be class related as well. Theres a certain kind of mentality that working-class people/families were subjected to in the 90s and 00s. Even now, lower-income young adults, men, I've interacted with ha…

Things were very different for me and my brother and our families and all the people we went to school with then 🙄 where do you get this stuff?

I agree that we should have equal standards for men and women. What I'm wondering about is the officers hypothetical thoughts, the thought process of that.

I feel like enforcing that boys and men their feelings arent manly is a pretty good example of toxic expectations of a masculine variety.

Sorry but how are the officers thoughts somehow the womans fault? I'm not sure what's being described here

I like this post. But that title really takes away from the point of the image. toxic masculinity is real. These guys featured in the picture are amazing people, but theres a lot of really shitty people out there too. Unfortunately, these awesome dudes having existed and who exist today dont negate the shitty people. Just as well as awesome, empathetic egalitarian women dont erase women who abuse others or take advantage of the pressure on men.

That might be an official policy but plenty of people in charge of theoretically actually doing it opposed such craziness, and made sure it didnt happen. American, you dont have to be coy about asking. It wasnt that kind of course, otherwise, I would have done that. After the initial review, and when I took issue, they kept the tests that I took and wouldn't give them back because they "use the same material over", which would be a legitimate concern in any other circumstance. It's the army, I'd…

Ive definitely seen that too. This isnt meant in a mean spirited way at all, but I just want to say that the existence of patriarchy-type bullshit doesnt mean theres not women who also do shitty things to get what they want either. I often saw both in the same presence; shitty person woman is flirty and keeps Good Old Boys thinking she'll fuck them to get what she wants, and sometimes, she does. Or: Woman complains, guys freak out and make sure everything is ok Man complains, guys freak out and …

Well, I've definitely experienced being under a "good old boy system", so they are out there. As far as how common it is, I guess I dont know.

I basically agree with you on all points. Also, fuck zero tolerance policies. There are so many shitty school policies that dont get changed because students have no agency, nor the experience of mediating through thongs the way adults do, and so so so many adults completely disregard anything kids say because they're young.

Fighting back is perfectly allowed. It would be a betrayal of feminist principles for someone to believe that women are somehow above men or over men. Shes not an emotional slave master; if shes trying to fight you, shes just as worth fighting as any man. Well, I'd rather call it empathy tbh.

Wow, I hear A LOT of the same stuff too. No one ever said it to my face, but friends of mine let me know who I couldnt trust when they'd hear things. Getting mocked after being assaulted is not a great fucking time. That's bullshit. Men get abused. Men get assaulted. My brother was with a psycho chick who physically abused him, he felt like he couldnt say anything because he didnt think anyone would believe him, or worse--they'd arrest him, because people always assume it's the guy. Man, that's …

I greatly appreciate and respect that, and I respect your words. Thanks for those. You're right. They got it wrong in my case. It's probably not how things are for everyone. It really makes trusting any institution very difficult though. I'm so sorry those things happened to you. No one deserves sexual harassment or assault.

Well, the point I'm trying to make is that lawful society doesnt work. I've done those things. I've tried to fight the company, I've tried to (legally) fight the guys, I filed the reports, investigations were done, ive tried. All it takes is for a group of shitty men to say "I didnt see anything" and for the perp to say "I didnt do it". I fought lawfully, and all I got was unemployed. And a 30 page document of "no findings". I didnt even read it. By the end of the investigation I was completely …

My bad. I explained in another comment about why filing a complaint often goes nowhere. Tl;dr is nepotism. People in charge tend to be male and protect people they are friends with, even if they're in the wrong (and men tend to be friends with other men. Theres not like a cabal of men who meet weekly to talk about how to fuck women over; it's just an unfortunate outcome of unsavory events). I am coming from the perspective that she may have already filed a complaint and has seen nothing be done …

I'm not really in this to argue, hence why I didnt argue back,* but if winning an internet argument that was never meant to be an argument is what gets you through the day, then I wont stand between you and whatever you need to sleep at night. I literally just offered additional perspective to why people think a certain way and it was such an affront to your your delicate sensibilities you had to end it this way. Wallow in it.... lmao

I've explained how sexual harassment brings people to that point. It is endless and constant. It's truly maddening. I'm not saying what she did was completely right, but she was just living her life until some dude came along and made her his sexual object, and took it upon himself to try to exert that control on her. That control being, "look how I can make you my pervy sexual fantasy, and how I can get off on telling you about it, and theres nothing you can do about it." The problem here is ST…

What does that say about your casual acceptance of sexual harassment? Cant we say "no" to both things? Guys comment could have been borderline threatening.

Thank you, this is fucking truth. Everyones acting like slapping is The Worst Thing because its illegal; often times women being harassed have zero options. Doesnt make slapping right but I cant blame her much! But yeah let's not kill all men, and most white guys I know are pretty cool. Most guys, really... lol.

I mean who cares, laws arent morality. Is it legally risky to slap someone who harasses you? Absolutely. Do I blame her? A little... but not much. The negative effects of continuous sexual harassment far outpace the negative of being slapped; though I'm sure to the guy being slapped it would feel like the literal end of the world. People like that do those things because they dont expect to be met with resistance; they desire to exert control over perceived sexual objects that have a sexual hold…

I mean sexual harassment happens all. The. Time. Let's dive into fantasy and assume that the woman in the post is actually very attractive; she would be harassed all the time. I'm not even any level of gorgeous and I got harassed A TON at my old job. It's like being bullied at school; if you never fight back, they just keep going. It's a power thing, always has been. And there was probably some build up to that moment. I dont condone physical violence because the possible fallout can be bad for …

A friend of mine said she voted to retain all the female judges and voted for any woman who was running for office over any man, if she didnt know anything about that political race. Shes married to a guy. Sometimes I feel bad for him. He has some odd beliefs too though, so I dont comment on their relationship. I did blurt out, "that's kind of fucked up" when she told me about her voting though. I dont think she expected my reaction.

That's kind of fucked up, on their part. There is far more to a person than their appearance. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. =/ Is it a job-thing, like, part of your work environment?
