A bank isn't going to just allow money to be lost, insured or not. They would raise their interest rates or something to compensate. It simply a false equivalence. Perhaps you just have a radically different view of ethics than I do. I think the consequences are what matters. And had that been the case, then I would agree with you that this is not ethical. So the end results aren't moot at all. If I stole $7 million from a rich person and gave it to charity, is that unethical? It isn't clear to me that it is.
