Right. Nobody really cares about other people's naked kids, but the point is, to the people taking the photos, there was nothing unusual about taking such photos for a family album. I worry that our collective confounding of innocent nudity and sexual nudity is going to cause us a lot of trouble down the road.

Do you have kids? You know, if you have them, you have to wipe their asses multiple times a day for several years and so it doesn't exactly seem weird to see them naked.

As a woman, this lady is batshit. Please don't take her for all women's opinions.

Well, but if that were true, we'd be likely to see men being convicted relatively more often in the US than in countries where these disparities in sentencing don't exist, but as it turns out the 'men commit more crime' statistic holds for every country in the world.

Here's the problem: With the second, we know from research that men commit proportionally more crimes than women. They also tend to get longer jail sentences for the same crime, which is clearly not fair, but even if you control for this and other factors, men still commit more crimes per capita. So, there's evidence. The first has a lot less research to ascertain the causes behind it, at least in part because it's much fuzzier and harder to study than simply counting convictions and controlling…

That's true, but "At that time she was ambitious, getting better grades than I, attending classes, participating in science experiments in her major." makes it sound like she was doing objectively positive things, and that has stopped. Has he completely misunderstood her motivations? Maybe. It doesn't sound like they have great communication. But talking to her will help him figure that out in a hurry.

Hmm. I generally agree with the commentary here about having a serious and honest conversation with her, but some of the responses are pretty adversarial. You should find out what's really going on. There's a reason she isn't pursuing work more seriously. It sounds like you think it's simple laziness, but I have a hard time believing somebody as driven and intelligent as you say she is has simply decided to stop trying. Something is making her hesitate to look. Maybe it's fear of failure. Maybe …

Yeah, the problem is one of perception. My perception, from my own experience, is that most feminists are not anti-male, and that the ones that are are in the minority. At worst, the 'average' feminist (if there is such a thing) is indifferent to men's issues. People in this community ovbiously have a different perspective. It's not something I can resolve, so I just read the articles and refrain from reading the comments.

Because I also identify as a feminist, and a number of members of this community love to bash feminism and feminists whenever they can. I stick around to continue reading and educating myself about men's rights issues, but I rarely read the commentary these days for this reason.

In some sense, I do feel this forum has become an echochamber, and it isn't my echochamber, per se (I really don't feel welcome here, despite my general support of the cause), so I'm hesitant to even voice an opinion, but banning in general should best be restricted to spammers and people whose commentary serves no purpose except to inflame.

I guess I would say I find machismo as a negative word, in the same sense that I see catty as a negative word -- both are distilled negative stereotypical qualities of the respective genders. The dictionary pretty much defines machismo as "excessive masculinity", and this is the sense I'm trying to envoke. Masculinity isn't a bad thing, it's a good thing, a celebration of what makes us different, but taking it to extremes is bad.

Could that be sexism at work in a heavily-macho industry? Just sayin'. I'm precisely the type of woman who loves manual labor, but I've been ridiculed enough from the physically-oriented jobs that I have worked that I left the industry entirely while I was still a teenager.

Second wave feminism is... horribly misguided? The ideas that came from that phase of the movement are now 30 years old and appear terribly dated. Third/Fourth wave is where it's at. To actually answer the question, I, as a feminist, say that nobody should be forced into any industry by virtue of their gender. Those jobs need to be made safer for all workers, not to force more people into them. Men tend to take jobs in those industries because they pay relatively well for unskilled labor and are…

sigh. I always feel like these stories HAVE to be fake, like it's too ridiculous to even contemplate that somebody wouldn't be 'allowed' to masturbate. Sadly, it probably is true. Some people are insane.

For what it's worth, the view of feminism and faminists in this subreddit does not match my own experiences with the movement and its ideals. In my experience, there is certainly an annoyingly vocal minority of self-described feminists who display a pretty prominent anti-male bias. They are the kind of people that has given the movement as a whole a bad name, but I don't think they are representative of the larger, quieter community. Lots of women I know will only identify themselves as feminist…

Please don't overgeneralize. I'm a feminist, I read this community as well as feminism and the old tired he-said-she-said doesn't help anybody. The whole system of injustice that works to oppress many different people in many different ways hurts everyone, and we need to work to change it together. Just because I don't have a penis doesn't mean I don't care about justice in your community as much as I care about my own, and as much as I hope you care about mine. We're all in this together.

Is this what most men realy think about women's sex desires? The assertations in this article seem, oh, 1950's trashy romance novel or something.

Sigh. As much as I enjoy reading the MR community, stuff like this makes me cringe and want to abandon it altogether. Overgeneralization of 150 million people does not help in any way. It doesn't provide insight, it doesn't help you overcome, it doesn't give anything except a sense of smugness and victimization, which isn't helpful for anybody. Are some women crazy manipulative bitches? Sure. Are some men crazy manipulative bitches? Also sure. If these are the kind of people you end up spending …

So, My friend and his wife have been fighting for a very long time. He doesn't want to break his marriage vows, but that hasn't stopped her. She's cheated on him, openly, having 5 or 6 affairs that we know about. Yesterday he gets a call from her telling her to be out of the house when she and their daughter get back from the movies. He tried to ascertain what was going on and she called the police. Evidently, their child accused him of molesting her. What the heck can he do? He's pretty freaked…

This is a tragically flawed article. What does heterosexual marriage have to do with anything? Wouldn't it be better for global warming if we all lived in giant communes?

You're missing my point -- when two people decide to have a child together, one person's career suffers as a result. Doesn't that seem a little messed up to you?
/r/MensRights21/09/08 02:34 PM

Look -- why should women have to suffer exclusively for a child that both men and women produce? This society doesn't value raising children in the least, which is why you have so much maladjusted fucked up kids around.

The wife is definately not "brilliant and etherial and right about everything", and Al's probably not lucky to have found her either since she's a total mooch.

I certainly can't argue that, I've seen women do it myself and I'm not in that culture (I'm a lesbian, and I don't spend too much time with hetero women). I just don't think it's fair to say we're all the same or we all do it or whatever, based on my own observations, that that sort of categorical lumping based on the actions of some is the basis of bigotry.

I re-read the article, and I'm not sure I agree... he says things like "I was always of the opinion that women are not capable of feeling or showing any empathy towards males at all". The author is, so far as I can tell, saying that all women are anti-male without noticing, which I take issue with. Edit: In fact, reading more of his website, he does literally seem to be saying that women are good-for-nothing man haters. The tagline of his blog reads, in part, "All women have done the last 30 yea…

Don't blame all females for the behavior of some idiots. I have never ever done this or would even contemplate it. It's the equivalent of men being totally gross about women and objectifying them as good for nothing save sex. I see it somewhat regularly on the internet, but I try very hard not to take it personally, that there is a small minority of jerks out there that makes everybody look bad.
