Speculatively I would say maybe it is because they can control the narrative more when they are discussing it with the media. The media/ public might ask questions, but you can choose to answer or not answer those questions. JD is contracted with kink.com which is the largest BDSM porn producer... (I think) all of his videos are BDSM... I really honestly doubt he has never learned about consent and it's importance in BDSM culture. Prior to beginning a scene, each act that you are going to perform gets talked about and agreed upon. Many men do not report their rapes, many women do not report their rapes. It can be traumatic for a large variety of reasons. Consent is an extremely important aspect of BDSM, and I am sure JD is aware of that. It is one of the first things you learn when getting into BDSM... BDSM doesn't work without consent.
