I mean, in a perfect world you'd better yourself because you need a good foundation before you go & put yourself out there to date. However, most of the time you need a motivation or goal in mind to really get to that place. If you're lonely because you no one wants to date you and then you say hey I'm going to better myself so that people can see the value in me, and that happens to ultimately make you happier in the long run then who the hell cares. The end result matters more in my opinion.
