The fact that after all of this, you’re still trying to excuse Bear, shows exactly what is wrong with some people in relationships. The problem is not him wanting her to love him. He was not bothered with her suffering, just with how inconvenient and freaky it was to him. He was a normal nice man, who did not expect the wish to work as it did.
