I assumed it existed as a petty reaction towards women's rights issues and to feed the persecution complex of people who actually aren't discriminated against. It's sort of like if people started treating "first world problems" as if they were serious problems.

Here's one thing that none of the guys in this thread are getting (and I'm a guy). Consent can be revoked. If you're having sex with a girl, and she tells you to stop, then stop. You can get formally written consent notarized by an official notary, but none of that matters if consent is revoked during the act of sex.
