It's a choice. Most do it because they want the reward of what makeups brings. That's why I said "forced", because, just like you said, it's a choice Makeup itself isn't attractive. (I'm not a woman, just wanted to answer) As far as I know, if a woman wants to be prettier and have higher chances of getting a boyfriend, she has to wear makeups because it makes them more attractive to men (mainly low quality ones) BUT Makeups are attractive only because women wear them.
