Well I really don't see a problem. If he's the breadwinner and he feels fine with keeping that burden on himself he's letting her stay home. Otherwise she'd just have to get her ass up and work. He worded it a bit off but he did let her stay home, otherwise life would've dictated she go back to work. So yes it's fitting to say he let her stay home.
