If it feels like labor to listen and sympathize then you dont really care, and are just using them. But I do understand it can go the other way too. Some people do use their partner more as a resource for emotional support. Like, what do you want? For your relationship to just be impersonal and based on nothing more than superficialities. I feel like so many women nowadays are fed this message like men expressing any emotion to them is somehow exploitative.
