Yeah, our media really is terrible when it comes to this issue. I remember having those same thoughts when I was younger before I learned more about it. Then add in the fact that some loud minorities get up in arms, calling opposing circumcision being anti Semitic... It’s a minefield politically, so those in power avoid it. That’s why we as individuals have to do our best to talk about it and normalize talking about it, and inform others whenever possible.

The reason male circumcision is so normalized in the US unfortunately is mostly due to Puritanism culture, and Kellogg (yes the man who made the cereal), who came out of that. Circumcision (and bland cereal) was marketed as a way to lessen masturbation, and that caused the majority of people to circumcise their kids. Then those men grew up mostly not knowing it was different from the norm, and thought, I want my kid to look like me, I’m fine, so I’ll circumcise my kids. And so the cycle continue…

As a feminist, I hate that people like that have co-opted the word “feminism”. REAL feminism is about equal rights for men and women- not reducing men’s rights to match women’s, but improving women’s rights to be equal to that of men. Real feminists want BOTH men and women to have rights, and where women have more rights than men, men need to become equal in that field as well. Look up the gender schema theories of Martin and Halverson, first published in 1981. It’s quite interesting. And if you are interested in actual cases of scientists trying to make kids the opposite gender, check out John Money and his unethical experiments on twins. There were some “successes” but they are hard to rely on due to participants not wanting to discuss it (fair) but many horrible failures, especially the case of David Reimer.
