Well, I agree on your last point. I am 35 and already get a lot of "wait, how old are you" part way through the interaction. If I had to generalise I would say it's with girls under 25. Dude, if we wait for signs, nothings going to happen. My point is, we can't always go straight in, cold approach is nerve wracking and sometimes doing a little pre approach routine can help rather than lunging in at the first sign of eye contact. Especially when the club is 1/2 empty so a lot of people standing around watching.

I don't believe this. I always lurk like a predator and watch them first. I am too scared to go straight. I would be happy with achieving just the "running through" bit. I am in my mid 30s and the only time I have got laid was when I paid a lot of money. And even then it was over in 5 minutes and they don't allow you to play again even if you've got time left!

This is most clubs though. The ratio so far has always been "off" resulting in no girls who came in on their own. Most girls come in big mixed groups with guys and then stay with those guys the whole night, shunning approaches by anyone outside the group.

No one is always on point. If that were the case, no one would ever get laid. I am a nervous approacher and prefer to hover around before approaching girls just in case they are with any males who may become aggressive towards me if I do so. And that has never lead to me being negatively challenged, but has averted accidently approaching girls who were already with guys which could have resulted in confrontation. So caution is key when approaching in the club.

Go to your nearest major town. Uk is a weird one for demographics, which is why a lot of Usa based advice doesn't make sense. In smaller towns you will very seldom see a girl in her 20s during the day and when you do, she is normally hauling ass and on the phone at the same time on her say to the nail bar something. Ironically, I actually got the number of a Canadian girl a couple of weeks ago on campus and she replied back for a change. Still flaked eventually, though. Canadians seem a lot more friendly than stuck up English girls. I can't speak for Japan or Scandinavia, but they sound just the same as the UK.

I am actually surprised. Some of the posts on here from past threads beggar belief. I am glad the general consensus is not to bother. Not one person has given you a useful piece of advice. I am in the same boat so I can't either. You have to be careful with your reputation. I don't believe that. For some reason, there is this myth that middle aged guys are attractive, which just isn't true. How many couples do you see where the girl is 18 and the guy is 40? The problem here is, the rejections and occasional "incidents" that you have during that filtering process, though. For instance, if I approach in a venue popular with university students, sometimes word might go around about an older creep approaching the girls that go there. So it's so much about "taking" rejections, anyone can do that. It's about being subtle enough in your approach that it doesn't look like an approach, which isn't always possible.
