In my experience, loving yourself goes hand in hand with knowing yourself. When we don't love a part of ourselves we deny it rather than embrace and accept it. So the first step to loving yourself is generally being aware of what your true thoughts and feelings are. This is best done in isolation because social pressure can lead us to think we want certain things that our true selves actually have no interest in. Agreed. This kind of standard just doesn’t make sense anymore in a lot of contexts. There’s no reason to put yourself in debt that you can’t pay off or other dire financial situations just so you can add “I own my own place” to your dating profile... On the other hand, I don’t see anything wrong with someone having such preferences. People should be free to find people who they believe are the best for fit them.
