Correlation =/= causation ok Acting indifferent won't change anything for you. It has absolutely done wonders.

>but you need to accept and own it as part of you This is wrong. I used to have this mentality, and I could not have been more mistaken.

Could you explain what you mean when you say "initiate contact?"

Sagely wisdom. Sly behaviors that shirk responsibility are feminine in nature. All OP did was fuck-over one of the truly decent ones. I did something similar to the only decent girl I'd ever known- many years ago. I'll always carry that guilt with me.

Seems like the breaking point was the denial of a relationship. If you don't mind my asking, how did you deny her?

I think both you and /u/bot256 are right. The mind does trick itself, and it does seek the path of least resistance. Fortunately you've both provided a lot of way to stay on top of these habits, and for that I am grateful.

When you were the one pleading, she'd have treated you like a POS with a smugness and hate you couldn't believe a human was capable of (mine did). This is what ultimately made me decide to check-out this sub. A mentally ill ex had broken up with me and I had never tried to do the mature thing by remaining on friendly terms with an ex, so I tried it. Keep in mind I had never done anything offensive when we were together. Never yelled, never insulted, never flirted with someone else or fooled arou…

It's interesting that you say that because I have an ex in my past who was similar to your ex. She had esteem issues and began to emotionally withdraw near the end of our relationship while gaslighting me about doing so. While it's no surprise women are so sly and indirect about breaking-up, those behaviors shouldn't be tolerated at any stage of the relationship. Once they begin, you have to sort it out or end it regardless. Writing a civil farewell message instead of ending it on a bad notewas …

I'm dealing with this now, actually. She is very greedy with attention and feels unloved without it, but she's not actually contributing anything or creating a situation in which I'd *want* to provide her with attention. She said she wanted to break-up and I kindly accepted it, wished her the best, etc. Will she find someone else? Will she come back when she wakes-up in the morning? We'll see. I'm going to assume your girl is less childish and neurotic, so I'd simply match her efforts. If she's …

As someone who used to make his girlfriend the top priority in his life and who got lost in relationships, I would say have a goal. This goal should always be your #1 priority, whether it's work-related, a hobby- whatever. This is your space and your purpose that is entirely unrelated to her, and will persist if the relationship falls apart. Beyond that, always be prepared to walk away and handle the split. Stay above shit tests, fuck her well, and remember that she's going to be childish and ir…
