haha yes, thank you for sharing this article. Now, to find a balance between his insistence on "no suprises" and keepting things quiet...I think I need to tell him about plans the day of instead of a week or two in advance.

Not sure what the original comment was but I don't want to break up with him or threaten the relationship as a whole. I guess I'm having a hard time figuring out dread v. living my life. I feel like whenever I go out with my friends, he is always a bit uncomfortable, so I try to make arrangements to hang out with them on week nights or during the day on a weekend where we won't be out drinking too much- I try to have them come over to my apartment for "netflix and chill" instead of out doing mor…

Thanks. And I mean I created this post to get out of that arrangement. Not stay in it!

I think the trick for me is definitely sticking it out past the "ah you're going alone" point. I need to stick to my guns and catch up with him later.

Yes! He is always telling me that I get upset when things don't go exactly my way (maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong) but I think HE is the one that completely scraps an idea at the sign of any obstacle. The thing is, my dad is terribly convinced that he is a GREAT leader. I don't want to shatter his idea of him. He comes off as very calm and calculated, and I think that's what attracted me to him, but deep down he's pretty anxious and indecisive. Like he does what he wants, but his default is …

He's doing this incredibly bizarre thing where he's topping from the bottom despite being the dominant partner. It's disconcerting and I think you can help correct his path simply by not being dragged into it. Go, do, enjoy, and let him realize he wishes he'd been there until he "decides free of outside influence" or whatever that HAVING FUN sounds like FUN. OMG. Putting it like this is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! THANK YOU! Everytime I bring it up, you're right, I'm putting pressure on him t…

Taken guys seem more attractive because of preselection. It likely gets him attention when you're not there. Yes I agree completely, and then they feel even more special when they think a guy with a gf is giving them attention because clearly they are special enough for him to risk his relationship with his gf. However, I really don't think he saw it like that until I explained to him "telling them you have a gf but then continuing to be friendly is naiive at best and ambiguously sketchy at wors…

Yes. I feel the same way. It can literally be something as simple as brunch or the smell of lamb simmering. I know he has ADHD and I want to be understanding, but I guess I need to decide if I can continue to see this as "fun spontaneity" over "unreliable and flakey"

I guess it's just hard to accept because I used to be part of his party life. I still kind of am (he will invite me out with his friends sometimes), but we used to meet up just the two of us and split a bottle of wine, and now that is not happening, largely in part due to his reluctance to drink as much, which I understand because we're growing up. As for being his girlfriend socially, I mean sometimes I feel like that, but usually he is pretty reassuring. Even before we were official, he told g…

I definitely see him as "wishy-washy", but I feel like my own opinions might become embedded into the way I describe things about him, so maybe if someone objectively looked at the situation, it would seem different. He takes things slow and I've always felt that he is a bit indecisive- however, once he really makes a decision, he is done with it and gets stressed out. It took him a month to decide on a job offer, at the cost of both companies getting annoyed at his unwillingness to sign paperwo…

By not approaching it from a position of need for so much of your fulfillment from him, it might set the stage for a wider roster of activities you end up sharing. Now to figure out how to do that and not sound needy haha

Thanks. I definitely plan on waiting it out, because I know he's stressed with other things like grad school, etc. He does mention that it feels like an obligation to hang out with the guys, and that the most important thing to him is visiting with them and not what they do. In fact, he mentioned that he and the guys might go out last week. I responded "great, I'll hit up my girlfriends and see if they want to go out." He kind of got a little upset because he felt like the only reason why I was …

I don't want to sound this harsh on him. I do feel this way, and the thing is he is always telling me he feels like he's making sacrifices, and I really don't know why. He HAS gone to things with my friends (friendsgiving) that he knew he wouldn't enjoy but did for me, and I know if I made a big deal about some things he would do it, (like "it's really important to me we go to dinner just the two of us"), but I don't want him to go and resent me for it. I think that's the trap I'm in- he is alwa…

I agree. It DEFINITELY bugged me when he went to the craft beer thing- mostly because part of the reason why I kept suggesting it was because I thought it might be something we'd both be interested in. When he told me he was going I was kind of upset. What he has done before is invite me once his friends suggest it- but I guess what I'm whining about is that: 1. My suggesting it is not good enough- it has to be his friends' suggestion; and 2. He's only going to go with his friends AND me, not ju…

And then go. Go out. Enjoy. Dining alone can be an amazingly enriching experience. Don't feel angry. Don't feel resentful. Enjoy yourself, the atmosphere, the lull of muted conversation. YES. I think this is it. I need the confidence to just do the thing by myself. Whenever I suggest something, he always says something like "eh you can go if you want but I'm not going" and I should really just call his bluff and actually go. I'm always tempted to hang out with him because I like him, but I think…

I agree with what others have said about having your own friends to do fun things with. Maybe you can do fun things with friends, and then spend quiet, relaxing, alone time with him. This might be a good compromise. I'm wondering why people keep saying this. Does it sound like I'm not going out with my friends? We definitely have our own separate lives- one where I go to wineries and fall festivals with my girlfriends and one where he watches football and plays video games with the guys. Occasio…

That actually happened this weekend! My dad was playing with his band at a brewery and he said he would go, but ended up bailing last minute to hang out with friends visiting from town (I was actually fine with this, because it's not very often his friends come into town and it wasn't his fault that they hit him up last minute). When I was done, he opted to not go out with his friends and instead picked me up to hang out hat his apartment for more Netflix and Chill. I mean I think he really real…

Your post has been the most helpful because not only are you describing exactly what's going on (what he heard and what he's thinking), but it sort of reassures me that it's all in my head and that there's nothing wrong with the relationship. I mean yeah, I do like going to his house and watching movies, and I like having sex with him, and I don't necessarily think the right thing to do is withhold sex because we're not going out on dates. I do do fun things with my friends all of the time, usua…

Thank you. Yes we are officially boyfriend/girlfriend and plans are in the works for both of us to formally meet our parents. You're right. Next time he invites me over I should maybe say "I don't feel like staying in and watching TV tonight" but he will probably say "well let me know when you're done with whatever and come sleep over..." and then it might be weird if I just say no...but I'll just go ahead and do that. I mean to tell you the truth I do like sleeping over, but I also want more qu…

You're wanting back that new relationship energy (NRE) because it fills a void in you. He wants easy sex, which you eagerly provide 1-3 times per day despite being clearly unhappy with this dynamic. You want him to build you up. You want him to make you feel special. It doesn't work that way. Yes. This exactly. I have his commitment, and I don't think I should be rejecting sex, so how do I not feel like I'm giving him easy sex??? I do feel like I provide a lot more sex. I cook for him, we talk a…

propose a wine/beer tasting event, perhaps. Straight up I have done this. I was trying to go to these Oktoberfest things and he said he didn't think they'd be fun and didn't want to go. Then I get a phone call "Hey the guys and I are going to this craft beer fest and I think it's going to be a lot more fun than what you're doing..."

I appreciate your post. I do think it's worth pointing out that I am NOT trying to be invited to guy time. I am not upset that he's doing all of these exciting things and not inviting me with (though occasionally he will). I am upset that if we have plans to hang out just us two, it will ALWAYS be netflix in his room with maybe me bringing over dinner or cooking for him. I am upset that from time to time, I'll say "hey do you want to maybe hit up this happy hour tonight or try out this restauran…
