Being a nice guy isn't the problem. The problem is when guys let their "niceness" block their confidence and authenticity. They are so concerned about what people think that they don't show themselves and they begin to lose themselves. Actually, that isn't true niceness (or even coolness). It is cowardice. Hang with the people that you naturally vibe with, dorks or not. And don't let that stop you from going for the girls you want.

Some girls do find your type charming. I say go for the shy-Bettys that you find cute. I have done OK in that demographic and many are awesome. Work on your confidence, but not with the intent of being alpha supreme. You won't be that and probably actually wouldn't like it if you were. Just be confident in who you already are. Be dumb, be weird, be nice, be whatever. You're good, my man.

That is a distinction that needs to be made a lot more.

That's me. End up having a drink by myself and then leaving. Sounds lame but what I personally need is another person to hit the town with who will give me shit if I don't do it.

It is never easy but at least the dating pool is much larger when you are younger.

No. Don't let your success or failure in this one part of your life define you. That is no way to treat yourself.

Good luck. I am in my mid 30s, also left single after a long-term relationship, and agree with the difficulties of being in the dating scene at this stage in life.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
