yeah that doesn't really happen outside sex and the city. even in sf, where it's literally the only way to liquidate your assets as a property owner, it happens in single digits each year.

the entire show "Orange is the New Black" is about why you are wrong about that.

this is classic - whenever there is a power imbalance, the language will tell you a lot of things that just aren't true. Other sterling examples include: residential leases, independent contractor contracts.

yes. And the problem is, we can't tier the law to categorize these families differently, for constitutional and social reasons. We can't say - oh, you have a college degree, we'll apply a different formula in your case.

wait, this subreddit is all about remembering that most men are normal and that rape is a sexually deviant thing to do. Given that, can we remember that most women are normal, and private about their sex lives? It may not be that 100% of rape accusations are true, but it's not 10%, either. I am by no means defending jezebel, or those bizarre statistics they're trotting out. I just think that attacking the ratio in the manner you are doing is not very persuasive.

Oddest thing: i feel that way about men, but if i knew a guy felt this way about women, i'd find him more attractive. however, only if it isn't for the sexist/paranoid reasons you listed, rather that he has extremely high standards.

You have so much to learn about effective activism, and I fully appreciate that it is very hard to be at the forefront of a movement, so I forgive all your hostility here.

"your own movement" at what point did i ever claim to share the views of any of the people involved?

the point is that the author of the article was not very good at expressing herself, so it helps to go to her source material.

"men must help" I think you are confused about what this means. this entire article is actually a riff of of "lean in" by sheryl sandberg (the current center of the debate on working women). She talks for a whole chapter about how women need to learn to ask men to be fathers. this is actually about reinforicing paternity as an essential household responsibility, which is something that MRA support iirc.

Again, this isn't about how she demonstrates value. It's about how she communicates about why she is struggling to demonstrate value. The original comment said that one way of communicating why she struggles to demonstrate value is acceptable, the other way is not. Thus creating a "discard/save" analysis based on communication, not value.

well, we don't know what the reason for the lack of is, since she's not very good at communicating it. but your treatment of her is dependent on her ability to do that, which is odd to me.

wow, so women who are bad at articulating their feelings get distinctly worse results under your list. are women with bad communication skills deserving of this? honest question.

If you have a marriage with the awareness and the culture that it is a "dealbreaker" then it has to be a dealbreaker because anything less than that weakens the rules framework in a "pandora's box" kind of a way. The kind of guy who would still do it in a dealbreaker world is not a guy who you stay with. However, if you don't live in a dealbreaker world, that doesn't apply.

Yeah except there are plenty of 27 year old women in the same boat who have NO expectations for being spoiled by men, who can pay for themselves but are picky in other ways. For example, weird life experiences that makes it hard to truly connect with people who have had more conventional lives. They don't need the red pill, but they're still headed for the same result. i'm conventionally attractive and in my professional life it can induce disapproval from women, unprofessional appreciation from men, and everything in between - some men hate me because i make them worry about their marriages, for example. can you imagine going through life having such an insanely unpredictable set of reactions? basically people are projecting their own insecurities on to you, whether they're related to fidelity or their own bodies. and how can that be better or worse than an o…

Making laws gender neutral is obviously in everyone's interest. I imagine the only reason not to is to make a political statement, and as a deterrent to a specifically targeted group. [and encouragement, for example to draw attention to the idea of women having bank accounts, commuting to jobs, being in politics]

My issue is seeing the shadow next to me for a while, but as a woman I invariably look behind and move slightly to one side, try to make eye contact to check the person's relative risk level, and to indicate that I am aware of my surroundings and of potential risks. If it's at night and it feels like a high risk scenario, I turn my entire body around and walk backwards a few feet while I inspect the person. I've lived in a scary city my whole life.

I hate when guys do this, too. Once someone did it to me in the workplace at the end of a shitty day when i had fallen and scraped my knee and destroyed a really expensive pair of trousers. i snapped. usually it makes me smile for half a second out of social conditioning, but then i will give the worst scowl i can to negate it. there was an excellent thread on how awful this technique is on TwoX recently.

that's not really opening, you are no where near number closing that girl. that kind of interaction in a class, like an exercise class, is neutral, not open. it's what we do to be polite. women have their guard up as exercise classes are often used to creep on women. it's completely different than if you had the same interaction in a club where the woman is expecting to engage for dating purposes. source: HB in yoga class.

these kinds of evidentiary rulings only happen in trial courts. and there are plenty of ways to punish trial judges for making many reversible rulings.

this guy will value exoneration over any amount of money, in a case like this.
/r/MensRights08/08/12 01:58 PM

actually, from a legal strategy perspective, a new trial is a really good outcome. the defense knows all the arguments the prosecution will make, has more time to prepare, and it costs the state more money. evidence can expire. this is why everyone tries to get a new trial if they are convicted.

TL;DR, respected author is touched and "negged" by unknown male repeatedly during the convention, and then chased down to listen to his apologies. Situation leads to the male being permanently banned from the convention, and the entire board of the convention resigning. edit: as a general counterpoint to the Mens Rights reaction, here's a strong defense of the author's actions: http://vschanoes.livejournal.com/86009.html

as a woman who lives in a city, i would say i am afraid/close to terrified in public at least once a week. and i certainly have no choice about going out alone at night considering the demands of my job. other times it's just disgust. lately, men have been making slurping sounds as i walk past them.

i would say r/sex has a posting quality way above normal in regards to mens rights and in regards to liberation from modern social theory. it's my favorite subreddit, unfortunate that it's about a subject that isn't relevant to me at the moment. my favorite thing about r/sex is it convinced me that marriage works for the first time in my life. many posters have been married a long time and are really happy.

celebrities kissing is all about denying that lesbianism is real. i think you should ask some gay women and gay men about whether they think that denying their sexuality exists at all is worse or better than their standard mistreatment.
/r/MensRights03/01/12 05:27 PM
-2

"Even if I do like my own gender I'm at an advantage – lesbians are generally better treated than gay males." actually lesbians are told that their sexual orientation isn't even legitimate, all the time. the reason why they are treated better is that they are not considered real, they're just confused straight women. to be honest, as a woman i read this the opposite way. saying "women are always right" teaches the boys that women control what is right and wrong and that it sucks. therefore the book is directly in keeping with the problems MRA see in society.

i took gender studies classes. the truth is, they aren't teaching hate, so long as you're able to understand subtlety and complexity. i think the real problem is that gender studies isn't reserved for top students, and when dunces take it, they take the concepts and twist them into fads.
