Money aside, Ignoring sm sounds like a way lose out on a lot of potential. Anyone avoiding sm just to say they are is really just minimizing interaction with conflicting opinions, thus making your own weaker (because you never have to defend them).

For sure. As an American who does not drink often, I tend to prefer smoking. However smoking isn’t always socially acceptable, so even I drink a beer or 2, it’s just considered the norm. No need to be “eDgY” lmfao
