They do vary, but all states have some form of mandatory reporting law. The variance is mostly to the extent that the state requires people farther removed from the situation to get involved. From preliminary research, I'd feel comfortable stating that all 50 states require child care providers to report suspected abuse. I'd welcome evidence to the contrary. Some degree of official information on such laws can be found here. All that's really quite irrelevant, however, because reports to law enf…

Erm, no, it's not. People who suspect child abuse are legally required to report it to the authorities. An example of defamation of character would be if she started spreading rumors to her coworkers and other parents that he was abusive. A confidential report to police is completely different. She may have had a shitty, sexist reason to suspect abuse, but that's a character failing. She nonetheless followed the law perfectly. This is... a pretty simple legal distinction to make. I would advise …

I'm sorry, but I don't see criticism of feminists as an inherently MRs issue. I don't identify as a feminist, but I'm not inherently opposed to feminism at all, and I know I'm not the only MRA that's this way. Pretty sure the circlejerk is going to get this comment down to, oh, -3 or so, but I fail to see how this is a MRs issue at all. The article (and incident) have literally nothing to do with men's issues in any way whatsoever. Seriously, why was this posted here?

I agree 100% with what mister_ghost is saying. De-escalation and finding common ground is probably the best way to persuade people that your concerns are valid, both in regards to MRs and just in general. The first step to de-escalation, I'd say, is to identify if the situation can be de-escalated. If somebody's telling you that you advocate rape because you identify as an MRA, there's probably nothing you can do to reach them. They truly believe that you are an absolute monster, and they're goi…

Bull. Fucking. Shit. The truth need never fear examination and rational discussion. The label for those that need to stifle discussion to make their point is "wrong". What you're arguing is disgusting to me, and I would hope, the vast majority of MRAs.

That's a fair point, about leadership roles at large, but it's not what the author of the article was talking about at all. Not once did she mention her concerns that men in leadership places were asked to make too many sacrifices. Her whole issue was the impact that it had on women.

Never heard the term "brogrammer" either, and I consider myself fairly up-to-date when it comes to the tech world. Googled it and beyond the obligatory Urban Dictionary entry, I was pretty much only able to find similar outrage articles. I'm personally going to move on and file this away with "mansplaining" as ham-fisted attempts to create oppression theories via cringey word-play. Apparently being a male programmer who sometimes makes jokes makes you a frat-style chauvinist.

...Except I was saying "Some Scotsmen [X], some Scotsmen [Y]" in response to "All Scotsmen [X]". I don't think that phrase means what you think it means.

I think you're speaking in awfully sweeping terms there. If you substitute out "feminism" and put in "third-wave feminism", I'm with you. But we live in a really imperfect society, and both men and women face systematic problems that we need to be working on. It just seems to me this sort of phrasing has become a lot more common here, and it honestly disturbs me. There are two major wings of feminism, egalitarian feminism and gender feminism. Gender feminism is the third-wave, SRS-style feminism…

Yeah, the article didn't even make me angry, it just depressed me because a certain number of people are going to believe that hack. I literally don't agree with a single belief that he attributed to MRAs. And the Pickup Community is pathetic beyond my ability to express. Hm. Yeah, depressed is a good word. Wonder what in the holy hell his problem is.

Yes. There aren't, to my knowledge, firms that only do that. But there are definitely firms with a men's advocacy specialty. My mother worked for one a while back. I'd say that about 75% of their pro bono work and 50-60% of their regular work was stuff like that. Roughly in order, they spent the most time on divorce/alimony, child custody, and child support cases. They definitely knowingly represented a few deadbeat dads etc., but they also helped a lot of really great men who just wanted to see…

Agreed. Don't post on reddit for advice. We're not lawyers, and even if there is a poster with a law degree, it's unlikely they live in your state and specialize in this. Get yourself in the door of the best men's rights law firm you can afford by 9 AM Monday, period. Ask for a full breakdown of your options. Don't ever have sex with a woman you don't want a child with without using a condom. For every case where both parties are trustworthy and nothing happens, there's usually a case where some…

Okay, well, tell that to a kid that never had a father. Is it fair? Hell no. Biology's a bitch sometimes. The fact that biology's a bitch sometimes doesn't suddenly magic away the pain experienced by a kid who has to spend their whole life knowing that one of their parents never even wanted to know them. Put yourself in the shoes of somebody other than yourself.

I disagree, and strongly. If a man walks out, there's a child that spends their whole life without a father. If a pregnancy is terminated, there is no child. Big fucking difference.

Typed my message from my phone. When I replied, the post showed 8 upvotes and 0 replies. It's showing up differently now, must have been an old cache. Fair enough.

Citation needed. From the article, it sounds like the lesbians were just as surprised as he was when the STATE (not them) went after him. They're quoted as being completely supportive of any efforts by him to get off the hook. And you know, posts like this are exactly why I'm increasingly struggling to tolerate or take this board seriously, despite agreeing very sincerely with its (purported) goals. System's fucked up? Hurr, let's just bash the women closest to the case, even if they didn't do a…
