Get off the apps. Here's an alternative that has been working well for me: I found a facebook group called "<my area> <my age range> singles." I'm sure there is one in your area and age group. Everyone in the group would post "we should do X..." and "does anyone want to do X..." and nothing ever seemed to happen. So I started declaring: "Potluck at my house, XYZ date! Logistics: ____" -- a month in advance, b/c people have lives, need to arrange babysitters, etc. What was that old baseball movie…

I do home loans for a living. A home loan isn't based on deposits into bank accounts, it's based on income on things like paystubs, W2s, from alimony or child support orders. Which bank account it goes into, or doesn't, isn't really relevant. If the car payments ore on her credit report, that is what matters, not what account the bills are paid out of. However: you said "solicitor" not "lawyer" or "attorney," which makes me think you might be a Brit, and the rules work differently there in ways …

$100k is the old policy; $2500 is the new policy.

The only thing I'll add that hasn't already been mentioned: travel/vacation. Either solo, or with the kids, either way it's a shit ton better than it was in the marriage.

I was at a singles trivia night thing several months ago coded for my age range (a tad younger than you, OP). The gal sitting next to me was into video games, and we were having a great conversation about that. Another woman joined in. Neither were particularly attractive to me, but it was a fun conversation about a shared interest. I was engaged, smiling, etc. 30 minutes later, wouldn't you know it, the most attractive woman at the event (by most measures) invited me to join her table/team, whi…

She might have been supporting them just fine for the last 10 years. Don't assume she needs or wants your money. Simple litmus test. You take her out, you pay. Two kids there as well as her, split the bill. See how she reacts.

I filed before I detested her, but after it was clear there was only one direction it was going. We, with a shared goal, wrapped up a California divorce in nine months, after almost a decade of marriage. When we do not have a specific shared goal, we aren't particularly amicable. Tactical might be the better word for those situations. Which still means I'm at least dealing with someone rational.

Fuck off with your loaded buzzwords. The other parent still being in a child's live is a sign of "I'm not a total piece of shit," that is all. Nothing more, northing less. My ex wife is in the life of my children. My current romantic partner's ex is also in the life of her children. If a woman's ex is totally absent, that tells me that she, at one point in her life, at least, had absolutely horrible judgement. My dating criteria do not revolve around seeking women with terrible judgement. People…

Sounds like you haven't calculated how much that "portion" is. :)

Is the proposed new loan amount significantly higher (say, $100k or $200k), indicating that they are pulling cash out? If that $150k goes to an account that she has solo access to and controls, then she can go spend it on whatever. And then you and her can each pay a lawyer several hundred dollars per hour to sort out how that spending gets divvied up when it comes time.

That's not at all what it would mean for her to assume the loan. OP has to "initiate" it b/c its currently his house and debt and another person needs his consent to take ownership.

It would be vindictive and childish not to attempt to help if that help only involves paperwork and signing the debt over to her. If you don't at least attempt to help her keep the 3% rate and avoid 7%, a future court may very well take note in the future when they claim their financial situation means they need more $ from you. If the loan assumption is successful, you both win, and the banks lose. Not everything good for her is automatically bad for you. Fwiw I've never been divorced, but do m…
