Yeah absolutely the skills are in high demand. That's definitely a reason I chose to get into it.

Thanks. Yeah absolutely having a diverse range of skills and licenses will definitely make you more valuable. Getting as much out of a company as I can, whilst learning a huge amount, before starting my own business definitely seems like a great way to go

When I spoke to much older carpenters, they would say they used to do a much larger variety of work. Nowadays all the carpenters I have seen, or at least on this site, were just doing framing and other labouring work. Really there just doesn't seem to be as much variety in the work. It also seems to be more demanding on the body. Edit: also in this cert 1 course we keep getting told everyone can't be a carpenter. Carpenters seem to be the least needed trade going about at the moment.

Yeah absolutely, I see it all the time even now. Starting a business and always hiring younger guys would be an excellent long term goal. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah I have my white card, managed to get it last year through another course, which was one of the few things I got out of it. But I will definitely look in to picking up work experience where I can. Did work experience last year with a big construction company and that's when I realised carpentry wasn't for me. I think we do first aid as part of this course as well.

Yeah great to hear from someone in the position, I want to head towards. You mention having a large collection of tickets. Could you give some examples and roughly what sort of work you do resedential/commercial, new construction/service? Thanks in advance

Yeah your absolutely right, I'm doing an electronics subject as well, which a friend recommended based off his experience for one class. It has really become an unexpected but very interesting hobby. Woodworking was also my favourite subject all through high school, so it's definitely a favourite of mine. Although automotive isn't a huge interest area of mine, the idea of doing my own mantinence is definitely a great way to save money and make another good interest. Looking at buying a car in th…

Yeah I have definitely considered leaving before year 12, and really next year doing the Electrotechnology course, as I said some people pick up apprenticeships early on in the year, but until I'm in the course, getting into electrical is unlikely, so I'll definitely be finishing year 11.
