I've seen countless people in the military talk about going from enlisted to officer. They set up all the plans, get the paperwork together, but 99% of them never go through with it for whatever reason. Of course they had no problem letting everyone under the sun know about their plans. These days when someone tells me a lofty goal of theirs, I nod but think to myself, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm a young guy in air traffic control. Much like working in the OR, you have guys as young as 19 working next to old heads in their 50's. Much like the OR, everyone expects everyone to be on POINT and know their shit. And there's no room for error as lives are on the line. In my experience, the best way to get the respect of your elders is to KNOW. YOUR. SHIT. Might sound like common sense. But I would go above and beyond what the minimum to know was. I would study for hours and learn the books…
