I feel like the best way to show where she's at is to ask her on a non-ambiguous date. One that she can't play off as being "friends hanging out". Because then she has to either say yes and admit she's interested, or say no and admit she's not. Easy.

Really? If the only variable is money and everything else is identical, I don't know a single person who'd rather have the poor guy - for anything. I have no patience with men or women on welfare unless there is a very good reason (such as disability) that they can't support their own lives.
