Lacking social skills or carrying around emotional baggage (anxiety) are not personality traits, so I don’t see how these are characteristics of someones ‘authentic self’. Introversion-extroversion actually are (and I hate to beat a dead horse but introversion ≠ shyness, socially inept, insecure).

Your authentic self is you stripped of your fears and insecurities. Why would you change yourself, besides ridding yourself of insecurities and anxieties, if you feel confident and worthy? ‘Naturally confident’ is a pleonasm. If you rid someone of his/her insecurities around his/her self-image, you are left with someone who is secure in his ‘natural authentic’ self, a.k.a. confident. As much as you want to improve yourself, you should have self-love and self-acceptance for yourself and respect your personality as it is. Trying to become a outgoing chad while deep down your a cool, calm and confident introvert is not the right interpretation of ‘improving yourself’. So it indeed should be: Be the best, most skilled and confident self while staying loyal to your authentic self.
