Also, get to know your capitals. I lived in Washington DC, lots of foreigners around, and I had a pretty good knowledge of world capitals. When a girl would say, I'm from Venezuela! I'd follow up with a, Caracas? They'd usually be a combination of surprised and impressed. Overcoming the dumb American stereotype is a pretty big deal in dealing with foreigners. Also try and understand cultural differences. It makes a huge difference.

Those studies are pretty old, and your findings are more in regards to prevalence than reduction of sti's. Also, I was unable to bring up sources when I originally posted. A substantial protective effect of male circumcision on risk for HIV infection was noted, along with a reduced risk for genital ulcer disease. After adjustment for confounding factors in the population-based studies, the relative risk for HIV infection was 44% lower in circumcised men. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources/factshee…

You are actually right, poor choice of words. It is generally accepted amongst the medical community is what I meant.

The world health organization makes it clear that female genital mutilation(FGM) has no health benefits whatsoever. The only reason that male circumcision is on the table is for its potential public health benefits, especially in places where std transmission is at epidemic level. I really don't have a care in the world what people do with their child's skinflaps, but I know it will be a discussion that will between myself and the mother when it comes time and we will use all rational criticisms…

I'm not going to even touch any religious aspects, those reasons in my opinion are completely invalid. So don't put words in my mouth.

I don't know what kind of general knowledge you subscribe to...

There are actually tons of studies in this regard, the burden of proof is on you to prove it. Also, the comparison of breasts, ears, etc to the foreskin is a flawed argument. Transmission of sti's is a public health issue and I think the further investigation of the benefits and negatives of circumcision is a worthy evaluation. We live in a culture where for the most part we are educated about safe sex and std's yet some 25% of sexually active teens have them. 75% of sexually active women will c…

You provided a reasonable comment to the discussion, yet you are still being downvoted because you opposed the Reddit hivemind. This is why I unsubscribed from atheism, I'm not sure why we can't have a reasonable discussion on this topic.

Because that is much more invasive of a procedure and does not affect public health.

Its pretty general knowledge (edit: amongst the medical community), I was actually listening to a Dr talk on public radio about it and he was posed the question to cut or not, and he said at this point he would do it for those reasons. He gave a pretty level headed response which weighed both sides of the argument. There are several trials that came out in recent years as well as US studies that showed it can reduce herpes and hpv rates by 25 to 50 percent.

I actually agree with you, I really think that after atheism reddit's most militant topic is male circumcision. You can't even have a debate around here.

I'm not going to get into this discussion, but it has been proven that circumcision reduces STI and viral transmission, some doctors recommend it for this alone.

Plan a get together or party with friends and invite her and any friends/acquaintances she may have via Facebook and maybe she will stop by. You will be around friends and in an environment you can semi-control, you will also be able to do some detective work to see her deal. Don't act creepy, girls are used to FB stalkers and you don't want to be one.

I got the digits of a good looking bartender chick this weekend, going out to dinner this week. Don't overthink it, if you have chemistry then she will feel it too. Ask for the number, if she isn't interested then oh well.

Yes, but if we're going to generalize like that then they are also retarded.

Nice, I live in DC, downtown. Out of curiosity, what bars/neighborhoods have you had most success? I've been doing pretty well here in DC myself, but it seems to alternate between the stuck up georgetown divas and the stuck up K-street lounge divas. I'll be moving to Columbia Heights soon, so what's next, pretentious hipsters?
