I hate how they rewrite history to make themselves the victim. My ex bad mouthed me to our kids, her family, my family, and our friends. She was the perfect devoted wife and I was the abusive, controlling, pervert. Of course now that she has sold/spent most of the assets she got in the divorce, she is begging to come “home”. She’s also asking me and our adult children for money. My credit rating went up over 200 points since the divorce.

They ask for everything and work backwards from there. You need to fight for what’s yours. They are probably thinking you’ll give up on some stuff because you’ll be “happy” they lowered some of their demands. I can’t believe she has any right to your parents house. She’s the enemy right now. Not your wife, or family, and not your friend.

She told me she wanted a divorce and I was tired of her shit. Later she wondered why I didn’t fight for the marriage.

My ex told me; “All those things you did for me, didn’t mean a thing”. She’s now saying she was a “single parent” that did EVERYTHING. I did the laundry (family of 5), vacuuming, yard work, car maintenance, cooked on the weekends, took the kids to all their practices/games, handled the finances, and worked full time. She was a SAHM who worked part time when she wanted.

My ex said if she didn’t get it, the next woman would. Divorce is a business transaction and not a caring/amicable split.

It’s a tactic. Ask for everything and work backwards from there.

My ex said the same thing, but when it came to filing for divorce, she literally went for everything. This is a tactic her lawyer used. Ask for everything and work backwards from there. Probably to see how hard I’d push back or hoping I’d fold.

I was married for 25 years, together over 30. Once is enough for me. Been divorced over 12 years now. I’ve dated a little, but I’m not really interested in putting in the effort to have a relationship.

My ex won’t leave me alone. She’s spent everything she got in the divorce (paid off house and 1/2 of my 401k). She gets over a 1/3 of my pension plus she gets her own social security. She bad mouths me to our kids and still asks me for money. Recently she’s been saying I should move out of my house and let her move in. She asks our adult children for money. We’ve been divorced over 12 years.

Unfortunately, she’s not that far off. She’s now manifesting that I move out of my house and let her move in. She also wants money to fix up the house the way she wants to, after moving in.
/r/Divorce_Men28/04/26 11:28 PM

It’s not so much that she got the house, but that she blew it so quickly. She was in this the universe/manifest b.s. and I guess she thought she could just manifest some more. It took her a few more years to blow through her share of my 401k.

My ex wanted to come “home” after selling the paid off house she got in the divorce and spending most, if not all, of the proceeds. This was about 6 years after the divorce she wanted.

My ex bad mouths me to everyone she can (our adult children, my mother, my son’s MIL, our friends, etc.) and then wonders why I refuse to be her friend.

That has to be the worse part about divorce. I adore my children. I was “lucky”, because my kids were older when the wife left us (she didn’t want any responsibility). I’m sorry you’re going through this.

My ex asked for the divorce, moved out (leaving me and the kids), and filed for the divorce. She’s telling everyone that I initiated the divorce. In other words, they’re going to say whatever they want.

First one was a woman because I had read it was a good idea to get a woman attorney. It wasn’t. My ex wanted the divorce and wanted no responsibility for the kids (oldest had graduated college but hadn’t found a career, second was still in college, and the youngest was a junior in high school). I had bought a townhouse prior to marriage and we lived there a couple of years before we had kids. I kept it when we moved into a single family house when she was pregnant with our first. I rented out th…

My ex got a paid off townhouse, half of my 401k, and 35% of my pension. She no longer has the house or 401k. Spent all of it. She says I should buy her another house because she got screwed over in the divorce. The kids stayed with me and I was supporting one in college and the other was going to college the following year at the time. So the ex only had herself to support.

Mediation requires you both to agree on how to split everything. You might want to talk to a lawyer to find out what you’re legally entitled to. Talk to friends who have gone through a divorce in your state. My ex filed first telling me she wanted to be fair and amicable, but literally wanted way more than what she was entitled to (I.e. pre-marital assets, lifetime alimony). So mediation doesn’t work when one side is being unfair. We ended up going with what I recommended. I had bad lawyers who …

Going through divorce is tough. The life you’ve known , your purpose, goals, plans, etc. are gone. But you will get through this and develop a new sense of self, new goals, new future. After a while you might look back at this as the best thing that could have happened.

My ex claimed her monthly expenses were over $6500. She had no mortgage/rent and no car payments. I was responsible for paying on all joint credit cards (2 were maxed out). I was supporting our 3 kids, too. She accused me of hiding money. I told her the only money I was hiding was in the spare change jar and she could have it. My life is so much better now.

I was a nice guy doing stuff for her during the separation phase, but I stood my ground during meditation. We had a fair and legal distribution of assets in the divorce, but to this day she believes she was screwed. I’ve worked on my nice guy tendencies since the divorce. The best part about being single is you don’t have to worry about anyone else and can focus on yourself.

I was in a 30 year relationship (25 married). After the divorce, it felt like there was a huge void in my life and I had a need to fill that void (which made me too needy). I thought I was over my divorce because I didn’t want my ex back, but it was more complicated than just that. It took me a couple of years (and one failed relationship) to feel good about my life again.

For 26 years you put your wife and kids first. You’ve been husband, father, and provider. You’re going to go through a major identity change. It’s going to take some time to readjust. But soon you’ll only be responsible for yourself. You’ll be able to focus on your wellbeing, make self improvements, find new hobbies, exercise, meet new people, and begin to live your life how you want.

I literally painted every room in the townhouse she had moved to during the separation. She complained about it to the kids (“he only did one coat”). I used premium paint and did a good job painting. I guess it is hard to get out of “husband mode”.

I wouldn’t do things for her when she asked for help. I didn’t want to stop the divorce, but I would help her (install light fixtures at her place, put together a sauna, move furniture, fixed fence, etc.). I was just trying to be nice. She continuously bad mouthed me to the kids or anyone else who would listen.

You can’t understand her thinking because you don’t think like her. Your family was your top priority and you thought she felt the same. She’s obviously not who you thought she was.

I went through 2 attorneys and they both couldn’t care less about me. I was the one that had to come up with the fair disposition of assets. First attorney just wanted me to sell everything and split the proceeds 50/50. The second one gave me no advice and sent me separation papers with wrongs dates and names in them. The second attorney supposedly told my ex’s attorney that I was an asshole.

During the separation period, my ex accused me of hiding money. I wasn’t. But thinking back on it, I wonder if she was projecting. I don’t know how she paid for her attorney and we had 2 credit cards with over $20,000 balances at the time. She had worked various part time jobs off and on after the kids were in school. I’m in Virginia. My ex gets a percentage of my pension which is based on the number of years married vs. the number of years I worked. I don’t pay any alimony on top of this. She has a time period (1/2 of the marriage) to go back and claim additional money (if I got another job). She also got 1/2 of my 401k and a paid off house. I kept the marital home (which still has a mortgage).

Crappy lawyers. First one was terrible. I honestly felt she didn’t like men. Told me I’d lose my house and that I could move to Florida, like her ex husband, where it’s cheaper. Second one could care less about my case. Never gave me any helpful advice and gave me documents to review that had wrong names and dates in them.

Talk to a lawyer, but I think if you kept the rental income separate from your marriage (didn’t spend it on regular expenses), you might have a case. Is her name on the deed or mortgage? At the least you might be able to separate the pre-marriage appreciation on the house plus any down payment you put in. But again check with a lawyer.
