I'm basically with you. If someone wants a fight with me at a bar I ask what they're drinking and buy them one. We can sit down and argue all night without coming to blows or end up friends after a couple drinks. I basically quit fist fighting in my mid 20s because it hurts more and takes longer to heal. Now I really try to let my mouth win all my battles or at least keep me out of them.

The vast majority of the time, yes. I agree. But there are some people who you can't de-escalate with. There are some that go out just to fight and start swinging without a word. Those are the rare cases when you must employ an alternate skill set.

There are times when a fight is the only option. It's rare, but it happens. It's even more rare for me because I carry guns every day. I'm not allowed to get worked up or feed into a fight. Starting or escalating a fight is always a criminal or legal worry.
