No. Explaining why men are losing third spaces does not imply the male loneliness epidemic is primarily caused by a lack of third spaces.

It’s not just about time and money. It’s also that men are scared because our culture has been brainwashed to think male spaces are misogynistic and exclusionary. Not only that but historically women try to take down male spaces and infiltrate them. They also shame men into thinking they’re losers if they don’t have enough women around.

Have you actually observed other people’s relationships? I can totally understand why a man would still feel lonely in a marriage.

You’re trying to dismiss the role women play in all of this, but I’d argue that women are one of the core causes of it. Why do you think male third spaces don’t exist? It’s partly because women don’t want them to exist. Imagine if a men’s gym opened up, you’d have feminists trying to get it closed the same day. And I don’t buy that women have the same level of loneliness as men, even if they claim they do. I think they just like to complain and victimize themselves. It’s the same reason they try…

Yes, I’m tired of hearing celebrities opinions in general. I find them shallow and pretentious, and their opinions are usually about as deep as “say things that sound nice”. They are platitudes meant to show off how “superior” their opinions are instead of deeply considered ideas. The stolen land thing is ridiculous. Every piece of land on earth has been contested at some point and the current occupiers are the most recent “winners”. It’s still necessary to have a government with laws, and to en…

Billie Eilish is a vile person. She once said “you give an ugly guy a chance, he thinks he rules the world.” I urge everyone to think about that quote and realize how awful that is to say. And on top of that her recent statement about “you can’t be illegal on stolen land” while she lives in a fucking mansion. Performative virtue signaling to show everyone how superior her opinions are.

It’s also unfortunately true that people aren’t focusing on the female perpetrators because they don’t believe women have agency. Deep down they see people like Ghislaine Maxwell as a victim

Men are heavily pressured to not report domestic abuse, and the point of this entire fucking thread is that women’s abuse tends to be less obvious which makes it harder to report and discuss. A man will punch you in the face, but a woman will slowly erode your will to live.

Meanwhile the reality is women hate the idea of being seen as a “person” because that doesn’t make them feel special, and it means responsibility and accountability. Men are playing the game that women created. For example men brag about “getting women” because women made it a game to “get” them and we like feeling like winners. Men subconsciously resent the power women have over us and the weird games they make us play so objectification is a way to mentally deal with that.

It's not just feminists, it's women. And that's the fatal flaw of this sub, thinking this is just about feminism and that equality is even possible. Women are biologically compelled to select men, it's what they do. And they can't stand the idea of an unworthy man's existence being validated. It sickens them. "Masculinity" is just code for "things that women select for and are convenient for them". You can convince someone to hide their real thoughts and preferences, but you're never going to co…

This brings into question things like war, gang violence, etc. Feminists like to imply that historically men like violence for the sake of violence, but is that really the full story? Or perhaps men were in charge of fighting for survival?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/01/26 06:54 PM

Male violence tends to be physical and direct, which makes it easy to notice and talk about. Female violence tends to be emotional/social/financial and indirect which makes it much harder to talk about. A man will murder you, a woman will fuck with you until you kill yourself.

I’ve done the following a few times and it’s very revealing: - Ask someone about toxic masculinity and examples of bad things men do. - Ask for one example of something women do that is bad that, importantly, isn’t caused by men. - Watch them twist themselves into a pretzel or name something then immediately say it’s men’s fault. It’s really incredible. Many people can’t name a single thing women do wrong. It shows how deep the rot goes.

That seems to happen whenever there’s a progressive movement. Initial intentions are good, then come the people who try to take advantage of it. Women should be able to vote and have rights -> women should get special treatment and men are evil. We shouldn’t be so mean to fat people -> fat is actually healthy and beautiful. We should be supportive towards mental illness -> mental illness is my personality and you have to bend over backwards to accommodate me
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/11/25 08:45 PM
6

The psychology of that is interesting. Being fat feels bad for both men and women. Men acknowledge that fat is not ideal and accept they either need to do something about it or live with it. On the other hand women think the problem is really that other people don’t find fat attractive, so their solution is to attempt to brainwash people into pretending big is beautiful. Even now that the body positivity movement has declined the narrative has shifted to “fat isn’t always unhealthy” which it def…

“Particularly in female social groups” You keep telling on yourself and other women. Being armchair diagnosed as BPD is nowhere close to how men are labeled as threats. “Women are more likely to be dismissed” In my experience women massively oversell the difference between men and women being taken seriously. You think people automatically listen to men? Fucking delusional.

We lose no matter what, and that’s an important tactic in the feminist toolkit. The point is to make men feel like we can’t do anything right and that we are inherently bad and should be ashamed of ourselves for existing. If we are more accepting of women then “men will fuck anything”, but if we have opinions then we are oppressing women. The person you’re responding to is also using another common tactic. Usually the way it goes is: 1. Women have it worse. 2. Ok women don’t have it worse, but t…

Honestly most leftists do this with every group they see as marginalized. They are incredibly shallow with their analysis of the world and belief system, and mostly adopt trendy beliefs that give them warm fuzzy feelings and make themselves feel superior to others. It's actually like that with every political group. Like on the right you have the sociopathic, cunning capitalists and the herd of idiots who don't realize they're supporting people who hate them and want to suck them dry for profit.

Women’s harsh judgmental nature makes everyone miserable including themselves. And what’s worse is they can’t deal with the cognitive dissonance so they blame men instead. Ever notice how men are criticized both because we’ll “fuck anything”, but also because we supposedly push beauty standards onto them? How can those both be true? Do we care a lot or a little? The reality is men have preferences but we are much more lenient with what we’ll accept. On the other hand women will get the ick over …

We can’t make progress until we find a way to break women’s monopoly on the social and sexual world. Until then men will keep bending over backwards to appease women and women will keep getting a bigger ego, and also more and more resentful and bitter about it. That’s because society tells them they deserve the best and they should get whatever they want for no effort. And since that’s impossible they get bitter over not getting what they think they deserve so they take it out on men. Then men t…

I have an issue with sex work because it reinforces women’s sexual power over men, and therefore promotes gender inequality. Do we really want a future where sex is increasingly monetized? Women are realizing they call literally turn their sexual power over men into cash. I really don’t understand why anyone would see this as a good thing unless they’ve drunk the feminist kool-aid.

Looks matter a lot, more than people realize or are comfortable to admit. I noticed for example, that if you’re fat or ugly you have to try harder to groom yourself and dress well. I think you hit on a very important point which is that women are socially conditioned to believe their feelings are automatically correct and morally right. Men on the other hand are taught to be skeptical of our feelings, to toughen up, and if men’s feelings conflict with women’s then we are automatically wrong and bad. It also leads to the situation I described in the thread above where a man’s worth is tested by how well they are able to ride the wave of women’s feelings. Also I was pretty d…

Yeah I get what you were saying, I’m just taking it a step further. When women say stuff like that the implication is “men kill each other because that’s just what they do”. That’s why they feel comfortable saying things with such little empathy, because they see it as entirely self-inflicted amongst men, while they are pure and blameless.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/07/25 06:38 PM

Horrible things don’t happen to women daily. That’s absurd. Think about what you’re saying for a moment. Using your logic then men are being murdered every day, yet most men don’t get murdered or even feel threatened in that way.

The part they leave out is throughout human history men have been in charge of going out into the world, securing resources and protecting their families and communities. And that often means violence unfortunately. This also has a psychological effect on men which promotes male violence and aggression in-general. Just look at gang violence for example. Comments like this confuse me. Have you not met couples in your life? Or maybe you’re not observant? Seriously every progressive and nice (usually nerdy) dude I know who has a partner, their partner is frankly spoiled and c*nty. I can think of 5 examples off the top of my head. Yet the feminist men are generally the ones they aren’t as attracted to. I’ve seen many examples of men who are emotionally distant and center-right politically yet their progressive partners are obsessed them. Absolutely, and it’s basically impossible to have this conversation anywhere. Most men are too naive and brainwashed to see it, women expect it, the left calls you an incel if you even bring it up, and the right just tells men they need to be more masculine. I posted about this elsewhere and I’ve yet to see a straight relationship that didn’t mostly follow this pattern. It’s basically expected at this point that your job as a man is to please women. https://www.reddit.com/r/itsthatbad/s/JUIYB8gw…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/07/25 01:56 PM

Yeah any talk of promoting masculinity is code for putting men in a gender-role shaped box. It’s a socially acceptable way to decide what men should be and inevitably leads to objectification of men based on disposability and utility instead of people. Positive masculinity isn’t “men should be less toxic” like people imply it is. It’s how can we mold and shape men to be more useful to women.

We need to start talking about the work gap and the safety net gap instead of the pay gap. Unfortunately it’s a lot harder to measure as usual with toxic feminine behavior. That’s partly why male advocacy is so challenging. We experience these things, we know they exist, but it’s hard to talk about. This is why I’m resentful. They take glee in bullying the most marginalized men. I’ll keep repeating this as many times as it takes. Incels are not the ones out there beating, rping, abusing, and murdering women. Yet being called an incel is almost as bad as being called a rpist. When I was very young I did things like play with a doll house filled with little stuffed cats. I didn’t realize that was feminine, I just thought it was cute. Society is cooked. I read that it’s projected in the near future 45% of women will be single, obviously by choice. Regardless of political affiliation, I have to be realistic. Women date up, and the more supportive society is of women the better they will do, and the higher their standards will be while men continue to get beat into the dirt. I’m not a birth rates fanatic, but again realistic. 45% of women being single likely isn’t producing a large upcoming generation. So the future is insanely…

Maher is a liberal, not a leftist. That’s an important distinction. Right wingers support power. Leftists are critical of power, and support policies that limit and redistribute power. Liberals are critical of power, and support policies that limit and redistribute power but only if it’s convenient which usually means change never happens. Liberals talk a big game but get in the way of real change. And when push comes to shove, they’ll support power when the rubber hits the road.

It’s not that complicated, and it’s generally pretty easy to see what a movie is putting out into the world. Titanic is certainly not advocating against women and children first. It’s also not advocating for it, but it is portraying it as normal and “how things are done” in society. It reinforces that women and children first is a normal thing.

Nah I’m a tall, skinny, awkward, nice-guy, nerdy dude who started lifting weights in college, bought new clothes, and failed a lot IRL and in dating apps until I got a sense for what women wanted. Then I realized I felt like a clown dancing for women’s approval and decided I’d rather do my own thing, get less action, and be more like myself. I’m critical because I know what they want and they’ve lost their magic.

At the same time, meeting strangers for dating is also becoming more difficult. Honestly I’ve gone away from the left on this particular issue. I don’t think equality and fairness is possible with women. I think trying to pretend like we can all get along is making everybody miserable including women. Nowadays women have more opportunities than ever, and more power over men than ever but they’re miserable. Men are miserable. I think there are deep biological issues here that the left is pretendi…

Yes you are an animal. We are all animals. Look at every sexually dimorphic species, there is a process by which males present themselves to females and females judge them for worthiness. In birds it’s often a simple process of doing a dance or singing or displaying their feathers to show physical fitness. With humans, mating rituals are much more complex but we’d be fools to deny their existence. This is culling the herd. We’d love to believe that we’re all humans and we just want to find cool …

You just listed things that are considered masculine. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. They are things associated with masculinity, and if you aren’t into those things guess what, you’re not masculine. It is a standard. Think about it for two seconds man.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates26/05/25 05:11 AM

How exactly is it dangerous? Masculinity is a set of standards that some people relate to and some do not. It’s a kind of prison, a set of guidelines that men are expected to follow. How exactly is it bad to ditch it in favor of being individual people?

It’s also why I’m not 100% against victim blaming. If you see a dude being violent and aggressive and you still date him then you’re a fucking idiot. If you try to ride a normal horse and it attacks you, that’s 100% on the horse. How could you have seen that coming? But if you see a bull charging aggressively and trying to fight everything and you think “im gonna tame him” then that’s at least partially your fault. Men can try to be better but we can’t do anything about psychos.

I don’t think this is just feminism. I think it’s the female drive to select men made clear and plain and taken to the logical extreme. The idea of women selecting men is a darwinian process and inherently eugenic. If you believe that women have this biological drive then every woman is a mini-eugenicist who is driven to cull the herd. Perhaps it is true that men and women can never find peace. And perhaps the red pill guys were unfortunately right that feminism is a giant shit test given to men…

Then explain image #5 in your post? Because clearly you think I’m misunderstanding it, and I’m curious what I’m missing. To reiterate, it says “across 50 developing nations the study found…” then shows 17.7% son preference vs 12.8% daughter preference. That’s why I said “overall” because those stats clearly come from compiling results across all the countries studied.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/05/25 09:34 PM

It might be more of an american thing but the general idea is men tend to be ok with very simple living spaces with minimal decoration but women prefer to decorate a lot more. So for example, if a dude has a living room with just a couch and tv that could be called a bachelor pad because people assume a woman isn’t living there.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/05/25 06:53 PM
64

I think there’s an even more general umbrella issue that this issue falls under. Men and women are socialized to think that women’s preferences are correct by default and men are expected to go out of their way to do things the way women want, and if they don’t they’re bullied until they get with the program. For example, the term “bachelor pad” is often used in a derogatory way but why? The dude lives there and maybe he likes a minimal space, but it’s a problem because it’s not what women like …

Women don’t pay attention to the average man and frankly many don’t even think those men are human beings with thoughts and feelings. The longer I’m around the more I wonder if this is actually solvable. It seems like women don’t find at least 60% of men attractive, and that creates a fundamental power imbalance. As long as men crave women and women hold sexual power over men, men will compete to please women and that limits our ability to advocate for ourselves.

That isn't communism the way Marx originally defined it. The communism you're talking about is the right wing bastardization of communism that took hold of the soviet union and china during the early 1900's. That's why people coined terms like Leninism and Maoism.

The essence of right wing is hierarchy. The idea that some people are above others and should hold power over them. In that sense, feminism has become right wing ever since it turned into a female superiority movement.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/04/25 05:01 PM
2

I think it’s more complex than that. Women have always held soft power over men. Straight men have a deep desire to attract and satisfy women. Putting on my armchair psychologist hat, I actually think historic female oppression is partly driven by men feeling insecure and helpless around women so oppression is an attempt to feel a sense of control.

I think you’re right that gender roles are a major driving force behind these issues. Why end roles when they can get a male provider, make the man feel guilty about it, while also somehow feeling empowered? They’re having their cake and eating it too. See the thing is, how we speak about ideas matters. When you talk about “the left” in terms of the modern left you are accepting a frame of reference. Saying someone is masculine/feminine does not imply an essentialist claim. Ultimately nature vs nurture is an unsolved problem, but I think we can all agree that some people feel more masculine and some people feel more feminine and that seems to be a deeply ingrained part of our personalities. I *am* advocating for people to freely choose based on their nature. That's why I said "We should aim for a society where we’re all just people with different body types and individual personalities and preferences." When people talk about gender roles what they mean is "you must act a certain way because you have a penis". Way too many people assume that their behavior is nature when there is plenty of evidence that nurture plays a significant role in how people grow and develop. It's unethical…

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/01/25 03:01 PM

Not really. It’s just an arbitrary group of actions that someone stamped the label “masculinity” on. Why does military service and potentially killing someone or getting ptsd make you more masculine? Why do men have to make cultural contributions? Is that also femininity? I don’t think we need to assign random things to masculinity. Masculinity as we know it should honestly go away.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/01/25 06:31 AM

I think attacking gender roles is essential. So many issues come from the fact that for the most part men are expected to be stoic, 100% straight, protectors who don’t express their feelings, show no weaknesses, and sacrifice themselves. We should aim for a society where we’re all just people with different body types and individual personalities and preferences. And while we’re at it, let’s hope that much of it is nurture rather than nature because honestly we don’t really know.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/01/25 12:48 AM

Putting aside the nature vs nurture debate, I really think this comes down to women not feeling like they have agency. Even worse than that, they don’t see the issue with a lack of agency because it’s easy to blame something or someone else. Many (not all) male vs female issues come from women expecting reality to unfold the way they want, and blaming men when it doesn’t. You can see this on a macro scale and micro scale. In dating for example, they view dates as an experience the man guides the…

Same. My interactions with women are becoming increasingly hostile, from them. For example, I was on a dating app recently and I made some joke about doing laundry. Had nothing to do with her or women, or anything controversial. It was something like “I’ve been so busy recently I can barely do laundry!” And her response was to get offended that I dared to even mention laundry around a woman. Seriously.

Unfortunately I see things getting worse in the foreseeable future. Feminism is too good a deal to pass up for women. Not only are they fighting against sexism, but also shaping men to be maximally beneficial to them, and they get to feel righteous about it the entire time. It’s a win-win-win for them so they don’t really care that feminism isn’t about equality anymore. You could have fooled me. You seem as scared, close-minded, and unimaginative as a conservative. You keep mentioning scarcity and competition but you’re failing to connect the dots. Something that really made things click for me is understanding that women are privileged in their own way. What they are responding to is the sense that their privilege is decreasing. Instead of women being approached by men, image a rich guy being asked for meetings to discuss business opportunities. I think there’s an awkward wrinkle in this plan which is women in general seem to be attracted to masculinity. And since women generally hold the cards when it comes to sex, it’s going to be an uphill battle towards gender equality, and there’s a chance that it’s not possible. That’s why so many feminists talk about positive masculinity. They really don’t want to lose the masculinity part.

It's partly because of the agency gap. In our society people see men as having more agency than women. This isn't true of those other identities you listed. In other words, people think of men as not only privileged but fundamentally more in-control of their lives than women, even when they're not being oppressed. In this case I think it’s disingenuous to focus on women entering the job market. In general it’s supply, demand, and market manipulation. You’re stupider than I thought lol. First, I don’t know why you decided to go straight to some large world altering event. I’m talking about a steady march that society is taking in a particular direction. Second, this trend happens at many different levels. The younger generations have a much more collaborative and less individualist mindset for example. Society is more and more interested in human rights. These are obvious trends that align with what I’m saying. The global effects are yet to b…

Wtf are you talking about. I didn’t say anything about America or make a prediction about America specifically.

Society has been moving away from that philosophy for a long time though. We use to have warlords and we don’t anymore. Power has been spreading out over time. Your survival of the fittest, domination based philosophy is not the way of the future.

Because they are taking it too literally. Interpreting what you read is an important skill, and I refuse to be brought down by people who can’t do that, and I’m not going to write an essay explaining every little detail, and making 50 caveats to cater to idiots and autists who take everything hyper literally, and those who need someone to explain that every single statement doesn’t need to apply to 100% of cases. Seriously, I spend a good chunk of my post talking about men being more open and fr…

True. The person I was responding to said "female incels", but "Femcel" makes more sense if you interpret it as "celibate because of female issues".

It’s funny you talk about comprehension but you clearly cant comprehend my post. I explain in greater detail what i mean and end with saying “men will fuck anything” is actually brainwashing. So my point is we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be shamed by that phrase and even reverse it by being proud for being more sexually free and accepting.

There will always be idiots and assholes. I went into detail explaining my point in the post and at the end I related that phrase to brainwashing. If people read all that and the only takeaway is “100% of men have zero standards” then frankly that’s a stupid interpretation.

Most femcels are not involuntarily celibate. They are celibate by choice. It’s honestly infuriating that the same words are used to describe both. In order for a woman to be truly involuntarily celibate she has to be grotesque. Even obese women get attention.

Honestly I’m not entirely sure. “Expect that men would not fuck anything” is a weird sentence.

This is still judging men by women’s preferences. Men aren’t as concerned with the connection between sex and commitment. That does not mean men won’t commit. It means for men sex does not automatically imply commitment the way it does for women. It’s hypocritical actually. Men are shamed for expecting sex but women are put on a pedestal for expecting commitment. I don’t see a moral reason to justify this imbalance. In-fact these days women are encouraged to be free and sleep around more.

Same lol. Little do they know I’ve dated >50 women. There was even a week I went out with a different woman each day. My opinions are from interacting with women and being observant.

They go with whatever is convenient at the time. But I think most men will agree that in-general men are far more accepting of women. The beauty industry tells women that they need lipstick, and makeup blah blah blah. But let’s be honest, if a women didn’t wear lipstick would that be a deal breaker for men? No.

Because you’re taking it too literally. The point is men are generally more accepting of women than women are of men.

1000x yes! Women’s romantic and sexual preferences are seen as good and pure but men’s preferences are dirty and perverted. BUT if I think about it, I find mens to be more morally palatable in some ways. For example, women’s sexuality tends to be very judgmental whereas men are much more free and accepting. “Men will fuck anything” is actually GOOD

Our social world has a huge bias towards women.

Yeah it's not for everyone lol. After awhile I just want to jack off and move on with my day. To me sex is messy, and time consuming. Especially since you often need to get women in the mood which is boring. I've never been a romantic person, so that always felt like a chore to me. Perhaps I'm just non-neurotypical.

Sure, I want freedom and the resources to focus on projects I find meaningful while of course maintaining connections with friends and family. Personally I don’t get lonely and I prefer to live alone which allows me to live my day-to-day life as I please. My primary goal is to save money and invest so that I can retire early and fully focus on my own projects.

Yep! I’ve realized women aren’t for me and that I don’t want to live my life pretending to be some idealized masculine icon. I’m much happier now that I’m focusing on what I truly want out of life.

Lmao a fucking housemanager? Are you serious? You're implying that I'm ignorant because of something that like 99% of people can't even afford. Hell my friend and his wife own a million dollar home and there's no house managers to be seen. Also "emotional toll" jesus you sound so spoiled it's ridiculous.

My friends and family are full of two-career households with families. So I'm curious what are they missing out on? From what I understand you're saying that there is a financial benefit to a stay-at-home partner? For the record, yes I run my own household but I do all the cooking and cleaning myself. I don't think I'm oversimplifying too much since, again, I take care of everything in my household.

Honest question, do you think that’s fair? If/when your kids are school-age all that will be left for her to do during the day are household chores. It doesn’t seem fair to me that one parent is working their butt off to bring in 100% of the income while the other is doing laundry and cooking dinner.

Women are being told that anything negative is oppression and men get a free pass. Boss yell at you at work? It’s because you’re a woman and men don’t ever get yelled at.
