Uhhhh like what sports are you talking about? Being able to throw something fast has a lot to do with muscle, and most sports where you're throwing a ball require other activity that would depend even more on your fitness.

This is so dumb. It's basically saying, "fitness depends on body composition and hormones (which are determined by gender), but not on gender! Besides the things that make men and women fundamentally different, men and women are the same!"

Most of the comments I saw on that page – 67 of them below – are absolutely sick. Almost all of them are calling the kid gay, shaming him for telling on the rapist, calling him a liar, rejecting that this is even rape (for a variety of reasons), or even saying that this would be an issue only if it were a girl who were raped. The fact is that people wouldn't be saying these things if a girl were raped. Anyone who did would see a huge amount of backlash. (There were a few people in the comments w…

impliedly Even if that was the word you meant to say, no I didn't. I never said that. I was pointing out how they're both minorities. Fat men have it harder than fat women, but neither one has it as easy as skinny people.

I said it was equal literally 0 times. And I never pretended women have trouble being found attractive. You're just putting words in my mouth.

I'm not moving my goal posts at all. This entire time I've been saying, who cares who is attracted to whom. That's not what any of this is about, which is why your original comment was out of place. What it's about is how peoples' reactions to the two scenarios are different.

You're right, I'm such a horrible person for pointing out that people of both genders have niche fetishes that aren't typical. I really never said they were equal. WHO CARES IF IT'S NOT EQUAL. It's not like anyone is owed anything. Women are allowed to be picky if they want, just like men.

But it's not. People are free to be attracted to whomever. The post wasn't saying "if men are attracted to overweight women, women should have to be attracted to short men!" because that's ridiculous. Why is it wrong that there aren't "hordes of women that love obese men?" Just because men are often attracted to overweight women doesn't make it wrong for the opposite not to be true. Men and women just look for different things in partners.

Um I think that was the point of the post. The post isn't complaining that women aren't attracted to men who aren't 6ft. The point of the post isn't to complain about who's attracted to whom. The point of the post was that the reactions to peoples' attractions reveals a double standard (not the attractions themselves).

There are some. It's a minority, just like men who like fat women. Are you complaining about who people are attracted to, though? Because that wasn't the point of the post.

You want to be shorter than 5'11"? I'll trade a couple inches, I'd love to be over 6'0".

The idea that 80% of the outcome comes from 20% of the effort. Like if you're squeezing toothpaste, it's easy to get the first 80%, but hard to get the last 20%. Or if you're cleaning dirt off the ground, the first 80% of the dirt is usually off within the first 20% of the effort. It doesn't apply here, though...

I'm 5'11" and I don't exaggerate it. I guess it's a little different though. 5'8" still isn't short.

Bumbling Dad is one of the most common tropes in television. The shows you mentioned, Modern Family, Arrested Development, etc.

Oh, I think a lot of people here would agree. I'm fine with saying "the bottom 5% of people in terms of intelligence are mostly men;" I think the evidence shows that. But to use that to say "men really are more stupid than women" is just a dumb conclusion, especially when your data is from the Darwin Awards.

That wording would mean that, but I don't think that's what they actually mean: Rape includes psychological coercion and physical force, and forced sexual intercourse means vaginal, anal, or oral penetration by the offender. It goes on to say that the penetration has to be by the offender.

That's where the police COULDN'T help. But I think his issue is with the word "wouldn't."

I had heard that they weren't suspended, just the social events they'd have. And most of that time, students will be on winter break. So it's not a huge deal or anything.

Yeah, but let's try to keep our own standards above hers. Sure, we can make fun of her for being a hypocrite, but let's not use her definitions to compare her actions to rape.

Pretty much every one of these is garbage.

Exactly. Also, babies have no concept of gender identity until they're somewhere around 3 or 4, so to say that they prefer one gender is complete bullshit.

Perhaps it is time to assess whether online anonymity should be an option rather than the default position. Once again, feminists cry out against phantom oppression while calling for restrictions on others.

Yeah, I didn't see anything bad on there, at least anywhere near the top. I really hope this sub doesn't start overreacting to things and making problems where there are none...
/r/MensRights10/08/14 03:43 AM

Exactly. But of course, a lot of feminists are too busy trivializing rape by making up terms like "stare rape" and saying that "a man can rape a woman without even touching her" to realize that rape jokes ≠ dismissing the seriousness of the issue.

The funny part about a rape joke isn't "haha rape is trivial," what makes it funny is the understanding that rape is such a horrible thing. How can we have a mature conversation about something if we can't even make jokes about it?

It's certainly not common, but usually happens if the crime is particularly heinous and was done with malice or full understanding of its wrongness. I can't recall a case where someone under 16 was tried as an adult, though. Basically, if you have a 17-year-old who brutally murders someone, it's hard to defend him or her getting significantly less prison time than if he or she was a year older.
/r/MensRights09/07/14 11:55 AM

Yes, but he's saying a 14-year-old should be tried as an adult, which seems a little harsh.

I don't think it's even that men are more likely to be killed by men. Men are more likely to be killed by anyone. Men have a lower life expectancy and part of that is because 80% of all homicide victims are men, about 95% of workplace deaths are men, etc. It makes my blood boil when women claim that men don't know what it's like to fear for their lives whenever they go outside. Men are far more likely to die from non-natural causes and violent crime.

What exactly is this "institutionalized violence against women?" I must have missed the memo when our societal institutions decided violence should be inflicted upon women, such as having them be the main victims of war.

The use of quote marks is intentionally misleading, though. Especially since it doesn't appear that anybody actually says anything close to that besides the author of the article. Especially since double quotes are direct, whereas if he is paraphrasing, he should be using single quotes.

And that's why the analogy is perfect - why does their speculating about her motives somehow seem more okay than if it were rape?
/r/MensRights13/05/14 08:52 PM

Not equating, but definitely drawing the analogy. And I think it's an analogy that's perfectly valid.

Remember, any time a man makes a woman feel uncomfortable, he is LITERALLY mentally raping her.
/r/MensRights03/05/14 08:59 PM

It's okay if a woman says "all men are rapists," but as soon as a man says anything like that, he's spreading rape culture. Whenever anyone makes a blanket statement like that, it's not rape culture, it's just being an asshole.

Everything but number 1 is actually pretty good advice. But those last 6 words in the first piece of advice just make me lose respect for this woman.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
