Is your lawyer even involved in the proceedings? I would be uncomfortable sitting through mediation without my lawyer present.

See here in NC your lawyer outlines the divorce decree for the judge to sign. I was told by my lawyer that since he wasn't hired by my ex that he could not just assume she wanted her name changed so it was left out. My ex is having to go through all the rigmarole to change her name now.

Not sure how it is everywhere else, but in NC if you file first you have to pay for it. At least that's how it was explained to me. Funny thing for me was that since I filed, there was no mention in the papers of her changing back to her maiden name (your lawyer looks out for you, not your ex spouse). So, if you want to see her have to go through the headache of getting her name changed outside of divorce that's a bonus. Edit: downvoted? He asked for pro's and con's and I gave him that. Jesus Ch…

This might be frowned upon but I found it to work for me: If playing 20 questions about your divorce isn't something you want to do over the holidays, then avoid your distant family altogether for the first year and especially during the holidays. By the second year there should be fewer questions because of time. Immediate family are a totally different creature, but if you want to be spared from telling great-aunt Matilda all of your business then just staying away is probably your best option…

Yep we have kids together. In NC custody mediation is free, so we went through that to get a custody agreement written. In all honesty that was the most hassle free part of it all. If you don’t have a criminal record or a history of drug use or violence there’s not a lot she can do to keep you from seeing your kids, at least in NC.

The first year is the worst, but it gets easier. You don't have to have new everything, just the necessities. Check Facebook sale groups and craigslist for used furniture. It's way cheaper and you won't need credit. Mediation seems like the easiest way, but in my state that still costs money. If she gets a lawyer you will definitely need one. Quite honestly I would start with an attorney and jump on things before her. I tried being the good guy and I waited on an attorney and I wished I hadn't. …

If she was even with a guy when it happened she would’ve gotten more than probation.

It doesn't work like this for DUI You're right - women are charged with DUI, but they are treated differently on the back end. This woman was stoned out of her mind on I-95 and hit a parked trooper, she was released to her father after being charged. A man would've been put in jail with a ridiculous bond (or more likely no bond at all).

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
