Oh, I get it. IMO those other reactions seem completely overblown, but does your ex legit have tracking tags already deployed to your kid? For that specific purpose??

There is a lot to unpack here.

Love this post, thank you for asking the question. It’s a legitimately challenging concept for an identity that’s been built around service, and providing. I’ll be somebody in my own time.

Arguments over what, exactly?

If that curiosity ever comes to pass, then I won’t be the one left trying to alter the historical record. Facts remain facts. I’ll answer any questions they might have truthfully and to the best of my ability.

Probably not. If they ever ask I might confirm certain details or whatever, but they’re old enough already to put two & two together themselves, I don’t stand to gain anything by pushing my own prerogative. However righteous it might leave me feeling it doesn’t add anything tangibly positive to their ongoing relationship with their mom (or AP, who is new partner) now. It’s definitely difficult but in the end the only truth that really matters is the one I hold myself.

No. I’d already been framed (and others accepted) as the villain, so it was more of a signal to me of the value I held in those people’s minds to begin with. It was kind of bewildering. Like - who AM I to you? Plus, having been on the downstream side of a bitter divorce as a child, I kinda knew the best strategy for my own kids was NOT to fan the flames of drama and bitterness with a network who clearly didn’t give AF. The catharsis would be temporary but kids would remember forever. Why be that…

She took the proactive position of painting me as some sort of giant asshole to everyone, so it definitely tilted the response from our community and social circle when her AP turned out to be our son’s hockey coach. I had to mourn our relationship solo. In the few chances that I did gather a glimpse of “her side” from anyone, it certainly seems like she had no choice (/s). I’ve outgrown the anger and being triggered but it remains disheartening to think about, for sure.

I asked ChatGPT to build an index of all the free birthday promos and offers available in my local area. Am Canadian, so you’ll have to adjust for your locale, but this was actually a lot of fun. I got free Starbucks, a cinnamon bun, a J from the dispensary, a Jersey Mikes sub, and baskin robbins ice cream!

I look forward to the day my kids are grown up and are no longer sharing a roof with her AP, when I can reintroduce myself to the POS, formally.

🙋‍♂️ Made the kids a fun breakfast, packed a note and some candy in their lunch today. Just enough so they know I care.

I can empathize with how this was handled but to cite a violation of your “right to volunteer” at a school is a terribly weak legal argument to make.

Trying everything I could to show her love and ultimately learning I was truly invisible to her. The feeling of being discarded cuts pretty deep.

Did ChatGPT write this? Point #1 is worrisome, because that’s a pretty foundational document to subsequent divorce proceedings and you definitely don’t want to fuck it up. Do you know your rights and obligations? Once that agreement is mutually executed it’ll take a court order to force a disinterested party to agree to amendments. And #2, your financial documents should already be in hand BEFORE signing the separation agreement.

Just thinking about her evokes those feelings of being discarded. Still cuts pretty deep. Throw in a melancholy song. It’s over.

We lived in a small town of about 1300 people for 11 years. Our three kids grew up there. I played on the mens slow pitch team in town with a dozen or so other guys from town, also curled on the mens league recreational curling night at the local rink. Not a single person I fraternized with reached out to me after we split and the house went for sale. It was probably an equally tough pill to swallow as her betrayal, that I just wasn’t a factor or entity in the community the way she was. IDK what…

Location matters in the context of answering this question. My own jurisdiction of Ontario, Canada provides almost no resistance at all for fathers who seek 50/50 access time, and puts the onus entirely on their counter-party to justify why it would be denied. Also, in objective terms, what is their hump, exactly? Just pure denial on the basis of injuring you? Or is there something more tangible (perhaps they want to move w the kids, or something)?

You don’t mention kids so IMO she really doesn’t have any shred of claim to be informed of your status/maneuvers here. My Ex had an AP for months leading up to her eventually initiating the separation - it was someone from inside our network/community. I very much relish the memory of what was the look on her face when one of her girlfriends showed her my online dating profile for the first time.

I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to do that. I'm not one to overshare but for sake of transparency the wife and I split December 2022. I re-engaged with dating in Fall 2023. This relationship that just ended was just past the 1 year marker and ran from Nov 2023 to very recently. Not that I need to defend it, but there has absolutely been time for reflection and work towards personal growth in all of this period. And in fact, that work is really just one long continual process IMO. Pers…

My partner of 17 years (3 kids) just left me so “she could be happier with someone else”. I don’t suggest doing this to your wife.

Hey OP, acknowledging this thread is a little stale but it came up in a search and serendipitously, I too occupy the less-social-parent role and an unexpectedly thrust into figuring this out post-separation from my spouse of 17 years. Three kids…school, sports, socials. All that. I genuinely hope things are going well and getting better for you now, almost two months since your initial post.
