This can be said for men to. Men are far more likely to abandon and divorce their partner if their partner has a serious medical illness, than the other way around.

You make so many inaccurate sweeping statements, and clearly hate women so much you can’t see past your own bs, and clearly don’t want to either. Sorry that you hate women so much dude. I can’t imagine it’s making you happy being so filled with hate. Hope you cheer up soon.

Okay, well that’s not the case for me, so maybe refrain from telling me what I do or don’t do? I literally went on a first date two weeks ago and I picked and booked the place. He was having a busy week at work so I just took it upon myself to do the research and book somewhere. He was grateful I did that. We had a great date, talked about so much interesting stuff, and at the end we split the bill. I liked him, and said to him I wanted to see him again and he said the same. We went out again la…

Is there any reason you’re being rude to me? I didn’t suggest it was only upheld by men. But there are plenty of men upholding it. That’s not a derogatory statement about men, it’s just an observation, so I don’t know why you’re so offended by it to the point of being rude. If all men stopped paying for women on first dates, then all women would stop expecting it. Would there be an adjustment period where everyone gets laid less? Probably. But the longer something goes on for, the more normal it…

What do you mean by that? If I want to go on a second date, I tell them on the first date, to their face. I also enjoy organising and picking what to do on dates myself.

Hahaha. Well I figure when you’re chatting and getting to know each other you will speak to each other about career, ambition, values etc, so you should be able to figure out whether someone is aligned with you based on that. Where I am in London, very few people have a car 😂!

Oh you know what they have brought in in some places in London, a QR code on the table! It’s so good! You scan the QR code with your phone and then the whole menu comes up and you can order whatever you want, order it to your table number and you pay using Apple/Google Pay. It’s actually such a game changer, they should really roll it out everywhere. Takes all the awkward and confusion out of paying the bill! Plus you can order extra drinks or dessert or whatever whenever you want, no awkwardly …

With my friends the norm is to split evenly yep. It does depend on the group I’m out with though, occasionally people speak up to ask to itemise it. I’d say it tends to be people on lower incomes who ask to itemise and people on higher incomes who don’t, which makes sense I guess. On a date, I’ve never asked to itemise if they do agree to split the bill when I ask. Actually means I generally pay for more than my share as I don’t drink much and I’m vegetarian. A very cheap date 😂 I think it’s jus…

I offer all the time. Not most of the time. Where I’m from the norm when you split the bill is splitting it evenly between each party. Hence how I ended up paying for some of that guys steak and wine. The assumption from both him and the waiter when he asked to split it was that we would split it 50/50, and it’s too awkward to then interject and ask to split the bill itemised per what we each had. (Especially as a polite awkward british person, we hate to cause a fuss).

I pretty much agree with what you’ve said and your explanation is exactly why I suggested he see a therapist. I don’t agree that it’s a “healthy” response though. But it feels to me (and maybe this is just our different understanding of the semantics of the words) that what you’re calling healthy/unhealthy, I would call normal/abnormal, or expected/unexpected or common/uncommon. Something can be a normal/expected/common response to a situation, and still be physically or mentally unhealthy. For …

That’s not what I meant, I think you’ve misunderstood my point. I am talking about what u/Demasii said. If you invite a woman to a restaurant that she cannot afford, and then expect her to split the bill, that’s obviously going to be a problem. His point was to gauge what her financial situation was before deciding what to do for a first date. You may have very different incomes. That’s also why I suggested not even doing dinner as a first date, and instead doing something that’s free/cheap.

Plus a little under 1/4 are the anxious-preoccupied attachment style, and those people are likely going to behave in a more clingy way. The two groups text to date each other.

I agree with this. Sometimes clingy is cute. Like someone telling you they miss you - cute. Being physically and verbally affectionate - cute. I often find myself feeling more clingy when I’m sick and visa versa, when exes have been sick for whatever reason and they’re a bit more clingy/needy - that’s cute. But then as you say, someone needing to know where you are and what you are doing at every hour of the day - not cute. Someone wanting to do everything with you and not wanting to leave you a…

Hmmm, I don’t think dating being turned into a transaction is the reason why money is an issue for people. Money is always going to be an issue for people who don’t have much money, because almost everything costs money. That’s not exclusive to dating, would be the same if you invited a friend to go and do XYZ with you. Either they can afford it or they can’t. Either way, I personally think the best first date possible is going for a dog walk (or just a walk if neither of you have a dog). It’s f…

I always offer to split the bill, which is almost always met with “no, I’m getting it”. If I am not interested in seeing the guy again I will absolutely insist that I pay half. If I want to see him again and he’s insistent on paying, I’ll say okay and I’ll get it next time. I think the only time ever I have had a man tell the waitress he wanted to split the bill before I even had a chance to offer, was a guy who arranged a date at a place he did some work for (worked in advertising/marketing for…

You don’t have to remove your mind from reality to cope with something. That’s called disassociation and it’s linked to lots of mental disorders. It’s very much possible to cope with problems in life without dissociating. Maybe you should study stoic philosophy, I think you’d benefit from it. OP too. I mean, you literally told me you were frustrated so my assumption was correct lol. 😆 “Liberal woman behaviour” - bringing my gender into it is the misogyny. I’m not angry :) I’m having a great day,…

You repeatedly put words in my mouth. Almost every comment you’ve accused me of saying things I haven’t said. I never said “it’s not the end of the world”. I never said “there’s more to life anyway”. The issue with your comment is that we don’t know that solving the problem is outside of OP’s power. He didn’t give great detail, as we have already discussed. But in his post he asks the question “why have I never been good enough to be any woman’s choice?” and “what is wrong with me that strays th…

Okay, so him not coping, being depressed, unable to sleep, feeling like he’s going insane - that’s the better option. Gotcha. Glad you’ve cleared that up. Angry - frustrated - that’s semantics dude, and you made it pretty clear that you were pissed off with the swearing. I also haven’t deflected at all. Do you know what deflection is? Because a good example is you accusing me of “making shit up”. Oh and a bit of misogyny to sign your comment off. Nicely done.

There’s so much victim mentality in this sub, it’s actually shocking. Seems like some people here will say literally anything to shirk personal responsibility, or putting in ANY effort / hard work to get their desired outcome AKA sex or a girlfriend. I’ve found that trying to reason with them or give them advice is like banging your head against a brick wall. If your advice includes them having to take literally any personal responsibly for their situation, then you’re the enemy. It’s low key na…

It took me many years too so I do understand the difficulty. I first saw a therapist at 19. I didn’t see a good therapist until I was 27. I didn’t get diagnosed with ADHD (which was the most life changing) until I was 30. I do absolutely get that not everyone’s circumstances are the same and there are a multitude of factors that can make someone’s access to good mental health care difficult. It sounds like in the end your brother got the diagnosis and the help he needed.

No, I’m not making shit up. <image> That’s my top hit on Google. And yes, I am completely aware that some of the things I listed people have little or no control over. Therapy is a tool to help people cope with their problems. It’s not a magical cure. I did not suggest anywhere that going to therapy would get OP a girlfriend. Why are you so angry?

As I stated, I live in England where we have the NHS. My own mother is severely mentally ill and has been since I was 5 years old. She’s unable to work and without the help of family members and people at the NHS, she would not have been able to fill out the forms to claim disability benefits. All the time she has spent in hospital has been because of medical intervention because of members of the public calling the police/ambulance. That is what I mean by “intervention”. Whether it’s available,…

Therapy doesn’t work like what? I didn’t say anything in my post about how therapy works so I don’t know what that is in response to. I suggested seeing a professional because OP states in his post that he is depressed, can’t sleep and feels like he’s going insane. You literally acknowledge in your comment that therapy can help people cope, help them get a more mentally healthy mindset and damage control the issue. So yeah, we agree. 🤷🏼‍♀️

You use the word “most”. I personally would use the word “some”, and even then, as discussed previously, it’s majorly nuanced and context is key. You’re clutching at straws dude. I’m a reasonable person, I’m not attacking anyone, I literally just expressed concern for OP’s mental health because he said he’s depressed, can’t sleep and feels like he’s going insane, and you’re weirdly on the attack. Can’t understand it.

A simple google search of the phrase “what is an external problem” comes up with the following: “External problems are those which are visible on the surface, and internal problems are those which are deeper, more emotional and psychological.” I have a very clear grasp of the English language, and how to use it in regards to psychology, thank you. Perhaps you have a different, personal meaning for the word. That’s subjective. However, my understanding and use of the English language in this cont…

There is a difference between being “sad”, and being “depressed”, “unable to sleep” and “going insane”. Therapy helped me immensely with my mental health. So did medication. Have you ever tried either?
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/23 03:24 PM

Absolutely, where there is very little information given about what OP’s specific dating related problems are, it isn’t really possible to give tailored advice. My original comment was simply about the fact that OP mentions he is depressed, he cannot sleep and he feels like he is going insane. This is why I suggested professional help / therapy. I don’t know where OP lives. I live in England and we have a public health care system. You can get treatment on the NHS for depression. Perhaps OP cann…

His dating problems are no doubt nuanced, but as I said, unless he was locked in a room by someone else, then he was not “robbed” of a chance to date. If you disagree with me entirely then please explain why? I didn’t suggest anywhere that “therapy would cure poverty”. Poverty is, once again, a very nuanced issue. Some level of personal accountability needs to be taken by every single person for their own response to their own circumstances. The only example of this in poverty where some level o…

If you believe you’re ugly, actually yes, you can change that if you want to. Plenty of people do by getting braces and teeth whitening, rhinoplasty, chin or jaw filler, having skin treatments, beard or hair transplants, getting their eyebrows done, trying different hair styles, etc and so forth. You can also lift weights everyday and get in good shape. The negative symptoms of having autism can indeed be improved with therapy.

The hypocrisy of that comment is hilarious. According to you, nothing is science. Even statistics and studies can’t be trusted! Nothing is fact if it goes against your own warped narrative. :)

I earned more (a lot more) than my last three ex partners. I also did more cooking and cleaning. You probably think I’m making that up! I’m not. My sister earns more than her husband, she works full time, he works 3.5 days a week. She does all the cooking and they split the cleaning about 60/40 (my sister doing the majority). In terms of child rearing my sister does 70-80% of the work. He struggles to be alone with the baby for even an evening without her. And this is pretty damn normal for hete…

I agree, if you are so narcissistic that you believe that your life experiences are completely out of your own control, you’re a 100% victim in all ways, and there is nothing you can personally do to improve your chances of having a romantic relationship, then yes, therapy will not work for you.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/11/23 12:09 PM

Sure, feeling bad emotions about it is normal. I feel bad emotions about not being in a relationship too. I’ve spent the majority of my adult life single. I sought therapy. OP doesn’t want to do that. That’s the difference. You either take responsibility for your feelings and you grow, or you blame the world and you get worse.

The fact you can’t seem to string a sentence together with correct grammar and spelling, are incapable of reading the studies that clearly state that even when men and women work and earn the same, women still do more housework and child rearing, and the fact that you discount all studies that go against your narrative as “hearsay” and provide no sources to back up your own claims, means frankly, there’s no point debating with you any further. Best of luck!

Depression not a “healthy” reaction. Do you know what the word healthy means? Do you know what depression is? If you are depressed, you are not mentally healthy and you should seek professional help.

It’s not “healthy” to be depressed about a lack of romantic relationship. Just, no. And if you don’t want to educate yourself then that’s fine, I won’t continue to reply. I guess I hope for your sake that staying miserable makes you happy…? Best of luck either way!

And I said not that abnormal. I didn’t say not abnormal at all. You’re clutching at straws. Romantic love is, at its most basic primitive core, a release of a bunch of neurochemicals in the brain. Those neurochemicals can be released in other situations that are not romantic. They’re even released by fans at football games or people at political rallys. I recommend you read the book Why We Love by Anna Machin.

If that were the case a hell of a lot less people would go to or benefit from counselling/therapy. Most people who go to therapy have an external problem. It might be their relationship or lack thereof. It might be their job. It might be their family dynamics. It might be substance abuse. It might be having been neglected or abused or attacked or raped. The list goes on. The vast majority of people who go to therapy don’t have perfect lives but just a “broken brain” that they need the therapist …

17% of people fall in love for the first time after the age of 25. Sorry but being 1/5 or 1/6 that’s not that abnormal. On top of that, romantic love is in many ways a cultural construct. Depending on the relationship, family can make you feel more loved than a romantic partner does.

He literally said he can’t sleep at night and he feels like he’s “going insane”. If you think that’s healthy then maybe you ought to see a professional too. It’s not healthy. Being in an echo chamber of despondency is definitely not the way out of what he’s experiencing. Sure, he can’t change the past, but he also can’t change the future if he spends his time getting enabled by people who tell him feeling like this is normal, rather than people who encourage him to make positive changes.

Have you ever had a relationship with a woman? did you actually read the article about the amount of housework done by each gender even when both genders are working full time? I’m gonna guess you didn’t read it and you don’t care anyway, because anything which doesn’t fit your warped narrative which is not based on any facts or statistics doesn’t count. I think you’re confusing the genders when you refer to entitlement.

Not having fallen in romantic love at the age of 24 is not that abnormal. You’re talking like he has been savagely attacked, lost a limb and has PTSD and is physically disabled from the experience. I didn’t mention anything about “lasting forever”so I’m not sure why that’s the first point. Plenty of people don’t experience teen love. Teen love is chaotic and shallow, far more highs and lows. Love gets better as you get older. On a side note, I think you should consider speaking to a therapist because from your post it doesn’t seem like your mental health is great and it seems like you could do with seeing a professional.

Those are just some examples of statistics on gender differences related to some popular reasons given for filing for divorce. Add in that women do more emotional labour than men, that women do more household labour than men, that women do vastly more childrearing labour than men, all while being expected to work full time. All of that imbalance will create conflict, another popular reason cited for divorce filing. It also should be noted that although 80% of women are filing for divorce, it may…
