For me it was an ongoing epidemic of ridiculous comments like the one from thesmos, as if there was a much larger subset of MR that didn't want moderates around. My observation is that theozoph was pointing to merely one example in a far-reaching trend of extremism and confrontational behavior that can turn people off to the overall cause.

I'll answer that from my perspective. When I joined and started adding subreddits, MR popped up and intrigued me because I had long been angry with the sexism in child support, domestic abuse, rape, statutory rape, divorce and other laws/standards in our society. I stayed for about six months, was downvoted early and often for presenting rational responses only to be met with the vitriol of some of the world's least tasteful commenters, and I left before I lost my sanity. I'm against abortion, b…

Keep being full of shit. I'm an atheist who stumbled across an article and shared it because I was curious. Instead of educating me, you made me think that /r/mensrights was a bunch of unwelcoming, overly-hormonal assholes who would rather be "alpha male" than make any progress for their gender. So much for rational discussion. If you ever have any intention of becoming a movement that is taken seriously by anyone over the age of 7, let me know, because you're clearly far short of the maturity r…

I appreciate the respectful comment. Do people like that realize they'll never be able to recruit for a movement if that's how they treat each other?

My post is about consenting adults, not newborn children, and doesn't condone anything, so you don't have a leg to stand on. Troll somewhere else.

That's where my mind was. Inform the adults and let them decide, because the science seems to back it up. Personal freedom, personal choices. Of course, I've already been labeled a "liar" and a "child mutilation apologist" for even considering having this discussion here, so you probably shouldn't trust me.

Wow, I link to an article and ask for your thoughts and your thoughts are to personally insult me, the guy that clearly just asked for discussion? I didn't write the story, so it's not up to me to "present the rest of the story." I didn't even deliver connotation in my title. I link, you read, we discuss. Welcome to Reddit.

You're misreading. He's saying that what you suggest should NOT be the case. He's saying that instead of trying to make this boy a "victim," we should realize that neither he nor the girl in your scenario are victims because of the consent... Or perhaps they are victims, but not so much as the punishment of males who have sex with teen girls would have one believe.

We should be working to get males the same type of sentencing, minus the fact that she also has to register as an offender, which is a ridiculously un-American lifelong sentence of degradation and vigilante violence.

at what point does it become the man's responsibility (especially if it was tit for tat and he was drunk too) to ensure a female is not drunk enough to not remember getting to that point? If you are keenly aware of the fact that your partner (non-gender-specific) appears to have lost the ability to logically make a decision as socially important as whether to consent to sex, but you haven't lost that ability, then you should not go forward. As an alcoholic, I can clearly say that I black out and…

I cannot fathom someone wanting any other method. You want someone like Scott Walker or John Kasich or John Boehner choosing your town's judge? The people get to decide the level and type of justice they want in their town.

Sadly, I already married my job, and that is one demanding, unforgiving bitch. :D I appreciate the wishes of luck. It's a better tone to strike. I would never tell someone "you have to abide by the societal rule of marriage and kids and lifelong devotion, etc." Conversely, when people tell me that I'm naive and headed for disaster because I gasp live with a woman, it irks me. I'm agnostic. We started dating very young. She has been with one other guy and it was during our one "break" several years ago when she was unsure she wanted to spend the rest of her life with the first guy she dated. We're honest with each other to the point where it's probably brutal, but it never leaves questions unanswered. She is not a feminist and I fail to see how socialism points to me dating a feminist. How do you get bragging out of my statement? What is this constant victimization and whining? I'm not a "winner," I'm just on the right side of the "worked out vs. didn't work out" column right now. Oh trust me, I am. I've seen plenty of people screwed. I know I'm very fortunate and I don't take it for granted. I just don't take the nihilistic view that "family is dead, the very idea of living with a woman long term is dead," because that's simply not even remotely in the same universe as logical or accurate.

Agreed on every count. Both males and females have every right to seek out the types of relationships they choose and decline what is outside their preferences. My SO has to issue rejections quite a bit more often than me, but I've had to do it as well.

Posts like this receiving upvotes makes me think the average age here can't be much more than 13. I'm in a happy, productive eight year relationship and haven't been "fucked in the ass." If your completely flawed worldview ever caught on, we'd last about 5 generations, and that would only be because of the failing condoms. Family is far from dead. In relationships? Right on. Also, women don't have the right to be entitled to sex or companionship with men and men don't have the right to female resources or protection. I'm glad you're catching on!

I read the entire article, and the entire thing is about dating and getting laid and how each individual in society chooses their sex and/or dating partners. This is an individual choice and can be made however any man or woman wants to make it. This isn't anything to do with rights. Nobody has the right to have sex with (or date) the person of their choice unless that person happens to return the sentiment.

It's a potential indicator but not an absolute. Case in point, there was a thread on MR recently about a girl that used to be a guy and people were saying that "his" full disclosure that "he was a man, just with an inside out penis pretending to be a vagina" would be absolutely necessary, or else "he" was lying to all of "his" sex partners. We should call them on it if it's bigger than dating, but this show was clearly just about dating, so I'm not too worried. I don't think her decision to not date a guy because he screwed a dude in college or whatever is going to have any effect on my rights as a male.

And she doesn't want to date him because of that. Her choice. We're free to date based on whatever criteria we'd like.

This is true, but it's individual relationship choice bigotry. I wouldn't personally date a girl that was into religion, but that doesn't make me a bad person. Now, if she went out and did the Westboro Baptist thing, or was a manager and refused to hire him for it, or refused to rent him an apartment for it, that's when she'd be overstepping boundaries. People have the right to not like things and to reject potential partners because of those things, even if it is discriminatory. Dating isn't eq…

I personally find it hot to consider a straight woman being seduced by a lesbian. My girlfriend personally finds it repulsive to consider a straight man being seduced by a gay man. That isn't homophobia, that's a difference in personal sexual interests. This isn't a MR issue, this is trying to force someone to find something sexually attractive or within their sexual limitations, which isn't going to happen.

I would agree with your last sentence. However, if your sister is not a feminist and does do Y when asked, that wouldn't necessarily be a fair comparison to make. That's all I was saying.

You're seeing it more and more each day because this subreddit makes you look for completely innocuous, harmless things like your sister wanting you to kill a roach and turn it into a major violation of your civil rights. Get a shoe or something and kill it. You don't even have to get close to it. The male gender, biologically, is better equipped to handle protection from perceived threats. It's science, not misandry. My story was in my most recent post. The post that got all the downvotes did not contain my story. Learn to read. The author needs some counseling because he obviously suffers from psychopathy (inability to feel emotion or compassion toward other people). Yes, but not at the level that most headlines seem to reveal. The wage gap in a few industries has closed and women make more than men, and in some industries men make slightly more than women. These statistical blips balance out. However, in some industries (tech, media, etc) there is a still a wage disparity that is closing but hasn't came within the range of statistical insignificance. It's nowhere near the 74 cents on the dollar that is commonly quoted, but rather near 90 cents on the dollar…

I appreciate it. My first few days here were a bit difficult as I found myself running into angry folks who lashed out at anyone who dare question their obviously correct opinions. I am here because of things like custody and alimony and guys being discriminated against at the local park, playground or gym. I buy drinks for random unknown people at the bar all the time. Then again, they usually seem pretty shocked by it, so maybe it's just me. I had someone in front of me at a fast food drive thru pay for my food once when I happened to be broke and living in a car, so it stuck with me. If you think buying a woman a drink implies that she'll have sex with you, then you have a lot to learn about relationships and women. What you're saying is the equivalent of "Beggars want you to give them money for the possibility of painting your house and fixing your car, then not deliver." She's trying to score a free drink. That does not entail her having sex with people. Whores are promiscuous without regard to the feelings of those around them. Look, there are few words that make me cring…

We work to end misandry, right? How well do you find that working if we call women "whores?" It's called manners and it applies to both genders equally. I never suggested women have a right to demand free drinks... but I wouldn't take away their right to ask and get rejected. That doesn't make them whores. If your wife sleeps with her boss for a raise and gives you an STD in the process, then you can call her a whore. This situation? Nope, she's being a bum, or a cheapskate, or worst case a scam…

"The rest of them are just "act cute and flirt until so-and-so buys you a drink." This makes you a whore." Seriously? Do you really despise females that much? As much as we toss around the word "misandrist" here, I wouldn't think that we'd resort to calling a girl a whore for flirting and hoping to score a drink. Guys should all have the willpower to say "no" and not call a woman a whore for trying.

So what would your solution be? Banning all violence from TV, since it's either going to be one of the two genders or a mix of the two? So your goal is to suppress free speech in entertainment? I'm only trying to determine why a scripted television show using an obvious ploy for controversy to get ratings is a Mens Rights issue. I do see, on some level, where you are going with this. I downvoted for 'The whole purpose of modern marriage is to provide for her "welfare"' as I find this repugnant. The purpose of marriage is a mutually beneficial committed relationship to provide each other with the tools to build a happy and successful life and, if desired, family. That is the classical justification and remains a very good point in at least a small number of circumstances. The problem is that the current system gives a blanket exemption to all women regardless of whether this actually applies to them and the new law would give a blanket exemption to men for providing in cases where perhaps it would still be the right thing to do. Why is marriage against the grain? I would think most people hope to find the person they love enough marry.

I am a guy and I wouldn't date a freeloader either. Recession or not, if you're unemployed you don't have the time (or money) to date. Find a job.

Do we have a graphic that shows how many men claiming to make over $100K a year were lying to game the system and get more messages?

'Tis true. However, we're both financially and emotionally prepared at this point, so I figure it's acceptable.

Committing domestic violence? It's called slapstick comedy and it's been around since the beginning of silent movies and television. It's over-the-top cartoonish violence for comedic effect. Nobody is really suggesting that it's OK to throw a pop can at your husband's head, or for Curly to really poke Moe's eyes out. This is like blaming video games for school shootings. "She beat up her husband because she saw it in a Pepsi Max commercial and was influenced by it."

OK, hold on. Let me try to contribute something worthwhile. We can't flip out if it hits a guy and cheer if it hits a woman."

Actually, I already linked to a man pie-facing a woman elsewhere in this thread, but the MR advocate that commented on it said that black people don't count. So, I guess this is the White Men's Rights board.

I was actually being sarcastic. I thought she was amazing. I'm saying MR will never survive if it's a one-sided, misogynistic movement... like the guy in this thread that was offended by all the dieting pressure from the wife but then was happy when the Pepsi can knocked the woman out. We can't flip out if it hits a guy and cheer if it hits a woman. Unless I'm misunderstanding something and this is really the He-Man Woman Hater Club. (Google it before you attack me, it's a joke.)

Been there done that, haha. It was OK with me. The guys that were trash-talking my "sexuality" based on my "manliness" were sort of mentally slow athletes, at least one of which is now 31 and pumping gas for a living. Maybe that's what helps them get through their lives.

I would say you are analyzing way too much. All of those commercials appealed to me. None of them offended me. I wasn't offended by anything I saw last night. If they showed a guy standing in the park and the cops arrested him for being in the park and looking creepy when, in fact, he was merely staring at an empty Bud Light bottle near a trash can and lamenting he had no beer, I'd be offended. Self-deprecation sells. How come nobody's complaining about old-dude-disguise Justin Bieber saying tha…

Nice try. It's not a double standard. I help my girlfriend stay on her diet much the same way she helps me. This commercial spoofed that. You really think a dude laying in the bathtub trying to sneak donuts is a plausible situation? Staying true to a diet is hard work and I imagine all the downvotes are from guys who don't have girlfriends willing to help their willpower when it comes to junk food and fast food. This. 100 times this. Child support, in and of itself, is a good thing on paper and sometimes in practice. Both parents should be held responsible for the financial aspect (and emotional, but that can't be garnished) of raising their offspring when one partner leaves in an attempt to avoid that responsibility. There are a million cases where the system is abused, but there are also plenty where the system is trying to do what's best for the kid.

... when he was twelve years old. And he possesses it. What part of "you cannot possess child pornography" did you not understand? If it's a child... and it's pornography... and you possess it... you possess child pornography. Check, check, and check. Guilty.

Possession of child pornography is also illegal, not just production. He had a video featuring a 12 year old committing a sex act. There's no way to even pretend this isn't exactly the definition of child porn.

Really? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15593753/ns/health-mens_health/ is a link. It's blue. If you click it, it takes you to a page. That would classically be referred to as a source. That post, with that source, has 3 downvotes... because it doesn't fit with the view that circumcision is "mutilation" so it goes against what people here want to hear. I had high hopes when I started here and even asked a few questions on a couple of threads to learn more about the real issues men face in custody an…

No, you're free to feel how you want. Hell, I'm so far from an authoritative source that you'd be just as likely to be correct if you went with the opposite of my opinions. I never claimed otherwise. I'm just shocked if there's really a group of people that consider circumcision, which is a harmless medical procedure repeatedly scientifically proven to reduce disease, to be "mutilation." She calls circumcision (which prevents the spread of infectious disease) "mutilation?" Interesting. I am a happily 'cut' man that doesn't have "junk buildup" issues due to a foreskin, and I don't feel mutilated.

Being interested in sports does not preclude one from having principles. Entertainment has its role in any person's life and one's life should not be devoted entirely to advocacy lest the fulfilling happiness of leisure and hobby never be felt or understood. Also, War Eagle. :)

It's pretty easy to understand that nuance. My point is that I'm not so uptight that I can't find humor in a joke that reinforces a stereotype. That type of joke can be funny. Chris Rock has made an entire career out of reinforcing stereotypes concerning his own race. I wouldn't say the people laughing at his jokes are bigoted. As I said elsewhere, intent and context matter.
/r/MensRights26/01/11 01:56 AM

Just about everyone. It's one of the most commonly used constructs in the history of jokes. Finding a joke-teller humorless, intellectually deficient and bigoted for a joke you haven't even heard is actually a humorless, intellectually deficient and bigoted point of view from where I stand. Context and intent matter.

Relevant! That conversation over there is very interesting as well. I must admit, I found a chuckle in your "vocabulary recycling" comment. I have spent so long thinking of ways I might be able to someday make the world better that sometimes it's nice to just take a deep breath and see the humor in something like that or this topic at hand. However, if we kill this poster in this restaurant and we kill that shirt, there are two less things to laugh about in the world. I wonder what the endgame i…

I have a lot of reading to do and I thank you and others for the links. In the meantime, one last question... You say "The fact is that misandric jokes are enjoyed by most people while misogynistic jokes are scorned by most people," yet I've heard more "blonde jokes" than any other type of pervasive stereotype joke. I've never seen genuine scorn or anger for these types of jokes in my personal experience. Do you feel that blonde jokes are inappropriate or misogynistic, and do you feel that blond…

Do you consider a (rather tame) joke as an "injustice perpetuated by a misandrist?" Do you feel that every joke that pokes fun at any stereotype or gender/race/religion role should be eliminated, or just the ones that you feel personally offended by? Where is the line? I guess my question to you would be: Do you feel the world would be better, worse, or the same if we eliminated every single joke that pertains to the perceived stereotypes of a particular group? I'm not sure if I'm unintentionall…

Thank you for the feedback. I understand the rage borne of frustration from a stagnant movement and that resonates with me on another issue I mentioned that I fight for in my original post, as a few weeks ago yet another bill died in my home state for my cause... and you do start to be frustrated with the same struggles. Gentlemen prefer blondes and blondes have more fun. I say that because I joined up here on MensRights for the real issues: Custodial rights, child support double standards, the expectations of men to always do the "dirty work" or "heavy lifting" because they're men, and what I've seen since I've joined this subreddit is a lot of people who seem to be searching for sexism wherever they can find it. I haven't "got a feel for the place" enough just yet to know whether I'll be downvoted into obscuri…

Your example of a double standard of breast implants would be relevant if she wanted him to have penis enlargement surgery, but I'll still bite on the more relevant comparison in labiaplasty... Vaginal rejuvenation surgery has some pretty impressive before and after pictures on Google image search. Yes, I prefer my SO to have everything in place and she does. Who says it's a big no-no for a guy to not want a SO with a certain body type or shape? If you fell in love with a woman but couldn't see yourself being with her because, for example, you weren't attracted to her large breast size, it is absolutely acceptable to be honest with her about that. If she wanted to get a reduction for you, she'd value your honesty and you'd both enjoy having that weight off your shoulders (pun intended). I hope I don't get downvoted too hard for this, but I don't remember the outrage when George Clooney said "no fat chicks" and neither does Google I would say that male models and sex symbols probably feel the same way as this female model/sex symbol. When you're in the top 2%, you probably get tired of the attention from the other 98%, and I doubt that's gender-specific. Either way, what she said was shallow and callous considering she was in a public forum making such brash statements.

I agree that there is a double standard, but using a case where the student was 17 as opposed to the more typical 14 or 15 in heavily publicized cases involving male teachers will actually serve to weaken the argument. The best way to make a comparison is find apples to apples and demonstrate what happened in those cases.
