I like collecting minerals, and want to get a lapidary saw. A good collection is very heavy and takes up space, but organizing specimens is surprisingly soothing. The mineral expos tend to favor older people, but it's a good way to get out and hike/lift/carry things. It's hard to make time for fitness with kids, but that's the dream once the youngest is school aged. Just to get out for a jog once a week even.

You have to reach out to people. The other guys may feel just as isolated as you, but it's hard as an adult to make friends. The other day, were waking past a noodle shop and my 4 year old sees another boy his age: "I have an excavator, do you like it?" "I have a truck" "Want to play?" Boom. Friend.
