This seems ad-hominem to me. Unproductive and dishonorable.

Yeah, I know. But I'l edit my post to clarify.

If you (Miranda Devine Piers Akerman) are gonna write an article with a provocative title like that, I feel like you should acknowledge it within the body of the article.

I understand that he's had a personal experience that has led him to where he is, and I empathize with that very much. But I still feel like he should try to escape baggage that his trauma caused. He wasn't calling poly people sluts, but he was calling promiscuous people sluts. and that's a bad meme to spread.

I'm sorry to hear that. For what it's worth, neither of the men in the article was necessarily cheated on. Can you read your post again and tell me if a reasonable person wouldn't suspect the author of disliking promiscuity? It seemed like a pretty clear implication to me on your part, but I'm willing to let it go.

There really is nothing inherently wrong with having a lot of sex partners.

I admit that it's hard to know the extent to which gender roles exist today through more rigorous methods of analysis.

Anecdotal evidence.

Also I should add that the distaste of some women for rigorous training and advanced math could be mitigated with a restructuring of gender norms.

Oh. I think it's very easy to read it the other way, but I see what you're saying.

Is the title implying that the reason there aren't more women in STEM is because it requires advanced math and rigorous training?

Top comments all say it was rape.

I now see what you meant, but I think it's very easy to read your post as a generalization about women having bad morals rather than a complaint about how society treats rapist of different genders.

I spend a roughly equal amount of time advising people who agree with you and people who disagree with you. I hear what you're saying about it being difficult to get good stats, I hadn't considered that.

Are you talking about the purpose of this subreddit in general or something more specific? Even if the prediction does come true, it seems like setting up these negative expectations all the time without any real purpose other than telling it like it is detrimental to conflict resolution and discourse in general.

When I see people deriding another group because they predict that some member of the other group will say something bad, it strikes me as tasteless and unproductive.

Yeah, your comment is emblematic of something I've seen at least once before that kind of bothers me. Can you give the courtesy of waiting for one or two people to actually say what you're complaining about beforehand?

Why do you think what she said is totalitarian?

Is it just first names? Cause if so, that's something you should at least mention in the OP.

I didn't say anything about my opinion on false rape allegations and I tried not to imply anything either. In other words, I wasn't trying to say that the point made by this case is true or false, only that this case isn't admissible as evidence of larger trends. I'm not saying evidence doesn't exist, I'm just saying that this isn't it. I wasn't arguing the overall point you thought I was arguing.

Alright, cool. I read the article and am convinced.

I heard that there was some debate over what % of rape allegations are false, but it sounds like you might have information I don't. Tell me more.

Yeah I just saw "her" photos. That just seems so unnecessary and cruel to me. Especially for a murder victim.

You should base your opinion on statistics, not individual cases.

If you have a problem with what she said, I think you'd have more success in communicating if you were more specific in telling her how you feel. Offensiveness is a useful concept, but who would you be more likely to empathize with: the person who says they find what you said offensive or the person who says they feel bad when they read what you wrote? Going to private messages is always an option if you don't feel comfortable having that sort of conversation in public.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
