Can confirm, being in your 30s is a different ball game and changes how you’re treated by most strangers. I didn’t realize how much I was entitled to because I was youthful and attractive. I’ve witnessed my husband’s despair over his son quite a bit over the years , and I’ve feared the possibility that his struggle might result in suicide many, many more times than I care to remember. When he gained custody, the arrearages didn’t go away. We, of course, didn’t have to continue paying support moving forward, but instead, our payments went to arrearages. The only person with the ability to make the arrearages go away was the mom. My husband turned his sons life around. He went from failing grades and behavioral problems in school to As and Bs. My husband had amassed 20k in child support arrearages over 12 years. He spent 8 of those years in court trying to get custody from the negligent mother . To be clear- he always paid what he could every month like clockwork, but the obligation was around $1100 a month at its worst and it was hard to keep up. As far as I know the money is still going to her. We can see on the online portal what gets paid in and what gets distributed out - we don’t see the stimulus funds yet, but we know it’s coming. My husband didn’t find found out about the child until several years after they were born. Another sucker was named the father, and was facing child support enforcement. He fought it and demanded a dna test. DNA test came back negative and he was able to walk away. At that point the state is looking hard for the father. We get notice of the child from the mom.
