My best friend is one of those and its 100% his fault. He has never bothered to go down to the court house and get his child support amended. Kids have been living with him full time for years and he still pays.

Most states alimony is paid by the one who earns the most and is often set by years married and how much they earn. The reason we see this often screwing over men is that they are historically men who are the higher earners while the woman either didn't work or where staynat home mothers. Alimony/child support do screw over people but its a myth that its the norm and if you look into the actual individual situations you would see its not so black and white.
