I tend to believe that Narcissists tend to be found in extremes more frequently than the more moderate areas (but there are also plenty of 'moderate' ideologies to grift off of too, see neoliberalism in general). I think the problem with someone who is ideologically fervent, is actually likely to change their beliefs quite a lot. My sister-in-law is like this, changes her core beliefs every 5-10 years. She starts out kind of moderate-liberalish as a rebel against her conservative family, a feminist, "atheist" (or anti-christian anyways), environmentalist, pro-choice, anti-GMO, vegan, etc. Now she's a Libertarian-to-Trump pipeliner, Christian, MRA, "Climate Change is a hoax", anti-vax, pro-life, pro-GMO, …
