You aren’t shit at reading women. You dodged a bullet, a girl in that sort of emotional state has got all kinds of crazy rolling around in her head. You may have closed with her if you had handled things differently but if you had her baggage would have bit you in the ass. Who wants to deal with that shit? I'm a tall lady, and prefer to have my arms high and his arms lower with hands close to my hips. For me, these types of hugs are the most sensual and likely to lead to arousal. I would worry less about arm placement and more about your partner's reactions, I.e. is she pulling closer to you. Full contact hugs regardless of arm placement are a good sign that she is into you.

He has to want to do it, and he doesn't. You are in a situation where he has less drive than you so he knows he doesn't have to work to get sex from you. He is being lazy. I'm in a non monogamous marriage and trust me, he will have problems when you start taking on new partners (especially ones that actually want to fuck you properly). The unfortunate thing of it is, there will always be loads of guys who want to fuck. There aren't very many who know how to do it well.
