OYS 17: is it all about freedom.. 37M, Married. Multiple young kids. 71inches 185 lbs. This week: Flat bench 245 lbs 3x4. Back squat 245 6x4. DL 255lbs 5x5. Mission: My previous mission was: Live just as I desire. I was prompted to undergo some reflection by the now deleted oobertas. I don't have a better answer but essentially, all I really want is to live my life with the greatest freedom possible for every age and situation. To become physically free to do all activities I enjoy by staying in…

Thank you for your input. My mission has been a work in progress and I appreciate you prompting deeper reflection. Does it answer questions about what is a good investment or time and attention: In it’s current definition it does help but as you mention doesn’t provide strong enough direction to facilitate decisive action. How do I know if near term goals and habits move me closer to my mission: I am seeing the fault in this mission statement as I contextualize it to this question. It seems more…

You answer is what I mean. I know there is something I’m holding onto.. an identity, an external opinion, something that I need to just accept I can’t control and that it doesn’t matter anyway. Thank you. Hearing this from you is very helpful.
/r/MarriedRedPill14/04/22 01:42 PM
1

Did that require letting go of something external to allow that to happen?
/r/MarriedRedPill14/04/22 04:53 AM
1

I do believe I can find that realization for myself. I think improving my logistics will help. I’ve noticed that when I become overwhelmed with external responsibility life seems less…. Less everything. I may need to add that as a topic I address in my OYS because right now I’m so entrenched in work, kids sports, and home things that I’m not finding a lot of meaning.
/r/MarriedRedPill14/04/22 04:27 AM
1

And to be clear. I see that reframing in the way you described above is helpful in and of itself.

Thank you for the helpful edits. I’ve found some solace in the “memento mori” mindset. It makes sense it does motivate me some. In a way it’s a near 180 from the religious mindset of eternal delayed gratification that I was raised with.. can I ask you what has helped you bring “meaning” or fulfillment ?

Also in relation to being disconnected: I am trying to buck a life long habit of thinking I’m always going to do something for myself later, what I truly want later.. after college, after grad school, after toddlers, after the move, after the new job..

What do I want to be true: that I can find as much perspective and meaning and brotherhood and community in my life without organized religion as I did with it. What do I want from a spiritual aspect in my life: similar to above, meaning, a perspective that enhances my enjoyment of my efforts. A feeling of being connected to the people around me. A sense of community and involvement. What does it mean that I’m so disconnected: that I’m struggling to align my actions with my priorities because I …

Thanks for asking. Today I came home from work, went to the gym, when I can back from the gym I took my wife into the kitchen and had sex with her. Then left, got a Protein shake and took my son to the park and practiced baseball with him. I did what I wanted and I stopped worrying about resentment or permission. It felt great. To maintain this mindset I will finish reading MAP (decided to give it a try last night and enjoyed it so far). I will consciously redirect my thoughts to be positive and…

I’m going to read, lift, stfu during the shit tests and I am going to have some fun and stop being so serious at home. I think that’s part of my problem. I smoke and joke at work and home I’m brooding and thinking and I am going to relax and enjoy myself this week.

I appreciate your comments. I’m sure ego is my biggest dragon and I will continue to work on it. I have not applied empathy as part of my game plan that much. That makes sense though. as for the divorce, I’ve tried and failed several times to go through with it. I’m a bad ender. A very shitty nice guy. Like every other guy here I’ve got the normal reasons, kids, money, etc. what’s confusing/challenging is accepting the marriage sucked because of me. The sex was non existent because of me, all of…

Shit. I can tell your right.. I don’t feel that white hot anger anymore though. But I guess I do care more than I’ve been admitting. I don’t like being married. I just don’t. And I’m angry that I still am and that I have been for so long. Can I ask how you dissolved your anger.?

I have not wrote down what I want to pass on. This is a great idea and one I’ll do. I’ve been fleshing out my own beliefs so I’m sure it will be a useful endeavor. I’ve done some core value writing, what I want kind of stuff but not as it relates directly to my kids. Getting over my own religious resentment still and I think you’re comment about how important this stuff is spiritually is striking home.

Good points. I know I don’t want them to develop unproductive religious guilt. And I’ve been modeling “nice guy” traits for way to long. Thanks for the advice

Good advice, no easy way out, however do you think there’s some harm or “don’t use it” is just the only way to stop ?

Thanks for the advice, I’ll read up on GSLP. I regret yelling, I think if I was really outdone independent I would have held frame better. It was revealing to me that I’m not.

I appreciate your comment. And your time. I think I’m upset at both. I haven’t overcome that sunk cost fallacy yet. Probably have way to much ego. And I’m still not convinced I want to be married. I don’t find a lot of value for me in marriage to her. I do find value for my kids in staying married.. and it’s what she wants. I’ve been slowly changing my day to day to be more of what I want and that’s bc of MRP and it’s helpful but as gay as this sounds I don’t really think I’ve ever loved my wife…

They are genuine, I’m happy at work, I’m happy with my kids, they’re not bad. I’m kind of at a loss. I dint want to be wrapped up in my feelings but I guess I am.. and not sure the way out or if that’s even the right direction

No, I actually feel pretty happy most of the time. I’m hung up on anger at my wife. I don’t feel like making her happy. I feel like as described in NMMNG, resentful and angry and still blaming her.

Thanks Blarg, I think I’m stuck on scorekeeping and anger and essentially acting like a bitch. Anger feels genuine but maybe this is why my feelings are bad and I should feel bad for having them..

I’m blaming my wife for fucking up my happiness and holding me hostage with emotional manipulation every time I try to get free, instead of blaming myself and fixing myself and freeing myself. Agreed. Cut and paste was lazy. The 1,2,3 approach makes sense and seems to work. This should be a goal I reach quickly. I’m not mad at them. I recognize their innocence and need for love, affection and a role model. I guess I wrote about work as a way of completing my thoughts on how I spend most my time. Point taken. My main problem is that I’m a fucking pussy. I keep trying to decide to either break free from a wife, marriage and religion that I’ve allowed to make me unhappy for a a decade or…
